The image below shows how to disable the control lock feature. You can close the oven door and try to disable the control lock using this information to see if the control will resume normal operation.

That procedure may free up the control but you may still have a problem with that door lock assembly. You will probably not be able to set the self clean cycle if that door lock assembly is not working properly.

If that procedure does not work, you will probably need to have the range serviced by a technician. Here is a link for the Sears Service website: Sears Home Services .

If you want to fix this problem yourself, reply with additional details and we will assist you further with advanced technical tests and procedures. You will probably need a volt/ohm meter to perform some resistance checks.

Q:

my oven door won't unlock after cleaning

A:

You could have a failed oven door lock assembly or a bad control board that would cause this type of problem. A bad oven temperature sensor probe could also prevent the door from opening but this type of failure would be rare.

Without a model number for the oven (or range) if is impossible for me to advise you on how to unlock the oven. If it is a free standing range with a drawer under the oven, you may be able to see the model number plate by pulling out the bottom drawer and looking in front of the right front leveling leg. Resubmit your question with the model number if it is in this location.

A wall oven or slide-in range will normally have the model number around the opening of the oven which is not accessible since the oven is locked.

If you have a free standing range, the door lock assembly may be on the very back of the range. Unplug the range and pull it forward so that you can access the back panel. Remove the lower back panel and see if you can find the oven door lock assembly. A rod will be connected from the door lock assembly to the latch on the oven door. If you can disconnect the rod, you can likely open the oven door. You can try replacing the door latch assembly to fix your problem on this type of range. If that does not fix your problem, then you may need to replace the control board.

You can unlock some ovens on other ranges by lifting the cool top and manually unlatching the oven door. Once you unlock the oven, you may be able to find the model number and resubmit your question with additional details for more troubleshooting and repair help.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Hello Wayne. I recommend that you try to disable that oven door/control lock using the procedure shown in the image below. Make sure that the oven door is closed when you attempt to disable that control/door lock feature. This may help you regain control of the console for the oven so that it can be used. You may still have a problem with that oven door lock assembly that needs to be fixed before you can self clean the oven. If you cannot get the controls to unlock using the procedure described above, then you will probably need to have the range serviced by a technician (see link below for Sears Home Services website). If you want to attempt a do-it-yourself repair, reply with additional details and we will assist you further.
