Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

If the bake igniter is glowing red and it takes long time for the gas valve to open, the bake igniter is weak and will need to be replaced. When an igniter becomes weak, it cannot pull enough current/amperage to cause the gas valve to open or it can take it a long time to open.

The bake igniter #318177710 for model 790.30474400 can be ordered from Sears Parts Direct. To access and replace the bake igniter you will need to remove the oven floor. NOTE: Disconnect the power cord from the power source before servicing.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

This oven uses a glow bar ignition system that is described in the image below. It does not have a pilot light. If that igniter is glowing but the burner will not light, then the igniter is normally the failed component.

I recommend that you check to see if that igniter is glowing. If it is glowing, then it will probably need to be replaced. You can order parts from the Sears PartsDirect website.

Be sure that you shut off the house circuit breaker for the oven before replacing that component.

If you need more help, reply with additional details and we will assist you further.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
