Q:

Bad tasting water from dispenser 795.77572 Kenmore Elite Refrigerator

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for using SearsPartsDirect.com.

Typically in these situations where there is bad taste in the water from the dispenser but not from the ice maker, the source of the issue usually stems from the water tank. The water tank is a wound line of water tubing that chills the water for the dispenser. If the dispenser is not used regularly, the water will sit in the water tubing and begin to form algae, which causes the foul taste. The water filter removes chlorine from the water, and chlorine prevents the algae from forming, so keeping the water in the dispenser moving is the best way to prevent the algae build-up.

The water tank is located behind the water tank cover on the bottom of the left door. It's listed on page 7 of the manual. If you need a copy of the manual, click the blue link below to download and view it. I would recommend visually inspecting it and replace if it has signs of algae build-up.

I have the owners manual but it does not tell me how to get to the tank. Can you provide the procedure for removing the shelf on the door and how to remove the panel covering the water tank. Thanks

The left side bin should be able to be released by lifting the bottom and pulling outward. They just snap into a slot on the door panel. They are pretty basic.

The panel for the water tank is also very basic and straight forward. You just remove the two hole caps, and unscrew the screws. I have attached a visual below.

Q:

What does "ER FF" mean?

A:

This is an error code that indicates, the main board is not receiving a signal from the evaporator fan motor or the board is not accepting the signal from the motor. The normal fix for this problem, is to replace both the main board and evaporator motor. In the meantime if you unplug the unit and then reconnect it, sometimes it will reset the board and it may work ok for awhile. For specific information about your refrigerator, you can resubmit your question with more details and please include a complete model number.

My Kenmore Elite Trio is showing the same code. The water filter just went out and I have more on the way. Model # is 77572. Do you know approximately how much I can expect to pay to have the main board and possibly the evap fan motor replaced?

You will have to remove the water filter to be able to replace it. Sometimes the filter can't be removed from the filter housing, and you have to replace the filter housing and the filter.

If you will reply on this thread and include the complete model of your refrigerator, I will be glad to help.

The model of the refrigerator is on the inside walls or ceiling of the refrigerator section.

You can get a Sears technician to replace the water filter for you at Home Services
