Question and Answers

Q:

Can I add a light kit to my Craftsman snow blower model 536.887993?

A:

You are correct the engine has an alternator but we do not have a light kit listed for your model. The manual does not state what the voltage is coming out of the alternator. It is possible to be ac or dc voltage. Any addition of a light kit is going to be a retrofit and we do not have instructions for them. I wish I could have been more of a help to you.

According to some internet research the alternator used in this snow blower is PART NUMBER: 611111. This is an 18 watt, 12 volt coil. Therefore if you were to connect a light to it, it would have to be a 12V bulb, and consume less than 18 watts total power. Because there is only one wire coming out of the alternator, I would assume that it is the (+) side, and the other end just ground to the engine. On a DC application it does not matter what lead is connected to (+) or (-) for a light. Sears did offer a light kit for another model that you might be able to retrofit with some modifications. Here is the link to the kit for the other snowblower. http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Craftsman-Parts/Snow-removal-equipment-Parts/Model-768884900/0247/1507100/00042358/00007 If you are handy, I would recommend visiting a local auto parts store or Radio Shack and see what they have. Most of their lights will be 12V. I would also like to add a light kit, and I will probably use an LED light as I can get a brighter light, and use less power.

Hello to all. As stated above the coil produces 12V at 18 watts, shich is 12V at 1.8 amps. Here is a link for a light that I've used on my snow blower. It's a 12v LED light that draws only 343mA or about 1/3 amp, which will not overload the lighting coil on the engine. Herre's the link from Norther Tool: http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200616639_200616639 This only contains the light, you will need to install a fuse, an off/on switch and wiring. Hope this helps. Lewis.
