Q:

What would cause my Craftsman snow blower model 768.884800 not to drive?

A:

Do to the age of your snow thrower we do not have the manual any longer. I have provided you with an illustration of a model I think is similar to yours. I recommend that you fist try to adjust the engagement cable and checking the belt. If that does not take care of the problem, you will need to get access to the drive components from the under side of the snow blower. Just tip the snow blower on to its nose and remove the bottom plate. Turn the track to ensure all of the components are moving freely. Inspect the friction wheel and the drive wheel. The drive wheel should be clean and free of oil. If the wheel has oil on it, you can clean it with brake cleaner. The friction wheel will have to replaced if it has oil on it.

On your model, I found the plastic wheels of the track seize because the shafts they ride on start to rust. You will have to dismantle the tracks and clean the shafts with sandpaper. Then use anti seize on the shafts to keep them from rusting again.

The parts needed can be ordered from our web site Sears Parts Direct .
