Question and Answers

Q:

WTW57ESVW1, Does not fill with any Hot or Cold water. WTW57ESVW1 Whirlpool Automatic washer

A:

Thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect.com and being a valued member.  I can certainly understand how frustrating it can be when your washer is not filling with water.

The water valve will be the first part to check, then you would need to check the switches.

TEST #2: Valves
This test checks the electrical connections
to the valves, and the valves themselves.
1. Check the relays and electrical connections
to the valves by performing the Cold, Hot, Oxi,
and Fabric Softener Valve tests under Manual
Test Mode on page 9. Each test activates and
deactivates the selected valve. The following
steps assume one (or more) valve(s) did not
turn on.
2. For the valve(s) in question check the
individual solenoid valves:
a. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
b. Remove console to access main control.
c. Remove connector J3 from main control.
Refer to main control diagram on page 12.
d. Check harness connection to solenoid valves.
3. Check resistance of the valve coils across
the following J3 connector pinouts:
hot valve: J3, 1 &4
cold valve: J3, 1 & 5
Resistance should be 890–1.3k ?.
? If resistance readings are tens of ohms
outside of range, replace the valve assembly.

Thanks Natasha, but pages 9 and 12 of what????? I looked up the installation and owners manuals on this website but apparently that's not what your referring to. I did however turn timer knob on and check voltage across both terminals of cold and hot solenoids on water valve with no voltage. Resistance across these terminals were both 763 and 776. How exactly is the voltage tested????

A:

The range that you got is out of range of what the valve should be testing at. The valve should be testing at 890 and the readings you got are tens of ohms away from the reading. You will need to replace the water valve.

Thanks Natasha, I will replace it tomorrow. Curious though, I can't seem to get 120vac at either of the solenoid contacts. I'm setting the timer knob and turning it on, but most I get is 18 to 40 vac. I have also gone through range of temp sel. switch. How should voltage be checked?

A:

Well I replaced the water valve with no change. Washer still does not fill with either hot or cold water. Cycling the control switch, all it does is spin. I know the lid switch works because it stops spinning when you open the lid. What's next ???

Thank you for your reply, it may well be the control panel, but please tell me how you read the diagnostics. If, as is the case in this instance the step 10 and step 9 in the diagnostics do not light up, ie it goes from step 11 to step 8, what does that indicate?

Graham, I suspect the diagnostics you are using is not for this dishwasher. That is why it is acting strange. The link below is the service manual for this dishwasher. When parts of the control panel stop working, the problem is the control panel. https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/52521bdbd0ef763c85256cbc00520548/$FILE/8178022.pdf
