Q:

Expert Information Problem

A:

Thank you for contacting SearsPartsDirect.com with your concerns about burner bowls for your GE gas range. I am so sorry we sent you the incorrect parts and also gave you the wrong information on how to return them. I will be happy to help you with this.

Let's start with the return of the wrong parts you received. The correct number to contact SearsPartsDirect regarding returns is 1-800-252-1698. You can also reach our Customer Relations department at 1-888-205-0966. I have included the link to this information on our website for you in case you want additional information such as our hours of operation or mailing address.

When placing new orders the best number to call is 1-800-366-7278.

The second, equally important concern you have is locating the correct burner bowls for your range. I reviewed the owner's manual for your model and burner bowls are not listed as an accessory you can add to this range. Your range was designed not to use them. Adding a burner bowl to a range top that wasn't designed for them will affect the performance of the cooktop. Adding a bowl can affect the air flow around the burner. This can cause the flame to either be intensified, which can result in burnt food, or be weaker and inconsistent. The change in the flames can cause other parts of the cooktop (like the burners and caps) to fail prematurely. For the best advice whether to add burner bowls to the cooktop, and the best bowls to use, I recommend you speak with the manufacturer of the range directly. I have GE's contact number for you. It is 1-800-626-2005. I have included the link to their contact information for you also.

I hope this answers your questions. I want to apologize again for the misinformation and the inconvenience we have caused you.  If you need further assistance, please resubmit your question with additional details and we will be happy to help you. Thank you for choosing Sears, we appreciate your business.

I can see your concern when there is a problem with controling the temperature on the Kenmore range. The link below is on a similar issue which may be helpful while an expert responds to your specific model.

There is a chance that you could have received a defective relay control board. Before you exchange or return that relay control board, I recommend that you check the resistance of the oven temperature sensor probe circuit. That temperature sensor probe circuit is traced in purple on the wiring diagram in the first image below. The second image shows the temperature/resistance chart for that sensor. The third image shows how to access the electronic control board in the console. At room temperature of 75 degrees, you should measure around 1091 ohms through that sensor circuit. If the resistance through that sensor circuit is off, then you can check the resistance of that sensor directly at the component. The 4th image shows how to access that oven temperature sensor probe. If that sensor is bad, then it will need to be replaced. You can order parts from this page: Kenmore Range Model 629.46779 Parts .

If the sensor is okay, then you could have a failure in the relay control board or in the electronic oven control board. I don't have specific tests for those two control boards to narrow down the cause of your failure.

I hope that this additional information helps. If you need more assistance, reply with additional details.

If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services .
