Q:

Oven bake element JDR8895AAS

A:

Thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect. I will be more than happy to assist you with your Oven.

From the information you have provided above, I can understand the frustration of having your bake element malfunction, after researching model number JDR8895AAS. This part has two prongs that the wiring from the oven will slide over and connect the element.

I hope you found this information useful. Again thank you for choosing Sears, we appreciate your business, have a great day.

Q:

Maytag model MER6771AAC. Used self clean in a.m. And that eve tried to use the convection and the element sparked, then burned around repair/replace?

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

When an oven element fails and shorts, it can do exactly has you witnessed. If and when this happens, you would want to flip the house circuit breakers off dedicated for the range or disconnect the power cord from the power source and it would quit sparking and frying.

Now, if the shorted element did not cause any harm to the electronic oven control or if the shorted element did not burn any holes in the bottom of the oven, replacing the burned out element may be all it needs to get it operating again. The bake (lower element) is part # 7406P428-60 and the cost of the element is approximately $55.00. Now, if the shorted element damaged the electronic oven control (clock assembly), the oven control is part # 12001661 at the approximate cost of $345.00 which can be ordered for the Maytag electric range model MER6771AAC at Searspartsdirect.com

The range is likely worth repairing if all it needs is a new bake element.

If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services.

I know  how frustrating it is to have essential parts of our cooking appliance stop working.  I have attached information that will hopefully get you through these repairs and cooking again.  If you do not feel comfortable making these kinds of repairs, you can schedule a technician at Sears Home Services

To replace the lower bake element, part# 7406P428-60.  Disconnect power to the range.  Remove the two mounting screws holding the element.  Carefully pull the element out until you can get to the wire terminals. Unplug the wires from the old element and plug them into the new element.  Be careful to not let wires drop back through the back wall opening before you have them connected to the new element.Reinstall the element to the back wall with the  mounting screws. Done.

The right front burner may be the burner element or it could be the infinite switch. The first two images below will help remove the top and replace the triple element.

There is a quick test you might try if you are not comfortable using an ohm meter to test parts. Perform one quick test to verify that your likely failure is in that inner coil of the element. With all of the burners turned off, try to turn that inner burner on and see if the Element On light illuminates. It probably will. See if that the light turns on when you turn on the inner 2 coils of the triple element. This may help you verify that the element is bad. If the Element On light does not turn on when the 2 inner coils are set to heat, then you more likely have a failed burner switch. This quick test is not completely conclusive but it may help you determine whether you have a bad burner switch or a failed element. If the Element On light is turned on in both situations, then your likely failure is the element.

If the infinite switch is the issue, use these instructions to replace part #74010824.  To replace the switch, use the following instructions.

Be sure that you unplug the range before accessing internal components and replacing that burner switch. Pull the knob off of the front of the switch. Remove the back panel behind the console. Note the location of the wires connected to the back of the burner switch (take a digital picture to document their locations). Pull the wires off of the switch and then remove the screw from the front of the switch next to the stem that houses the control knob. Pull the switch out and replace it. Properly connect the wires and reassemble the range. This video will help.  parts can be ordered at Sears Parts Direct.

If further help is needed, please reply.  Thank you for using Manage My Life.
