New Riding Lawnmower Backfires and cuts off

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the new mower. Seeing as the engine starts back up I suspect the problem is in the safety circuit. The tractor has a safety switch on the seat. If you happen to lean forward in the seat, it could kill the engine. It also has a revers safety switch that will kill the engine if you put the tractor in reverse with the mower deck turned on. As long as the oil level is fine and you are using fresh fuel, I recommend trying the mower again. When you are on the tractor, pay attention to how you are on the seat and do not put it in reverse with the mower on. If the engine does not stall, I suspect it was one of these two things causing the problem. As for the switch, it snaps into the dash. Just be sure it is pushed in all the way. It may move a little but it should not come out. I also recommend checking the wires on the back of the plug. Be sure they are pushed all the way on the switch. If this information does not cure the problem, I recommend having a service technician come out and check it over. The tractor has a two-year warranty so there should not be any charge for manufacturer defects.

I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you need further assistance.
