Q:

What would make my Kenmore refrigerator model 7957326 to beep every few minutes?

A:

The beeping is the door open alarm. It starts if the door is left open more than 3 minutes. Make sure both doors are closing well.

If the doors are closed, check the door switches. Do this by opening a door, press the switch in with your finger and see if the light goes off and on or the fan stops and starts.

If the door switches are operating normally, the refrigerator control board will have to be replaced. The part number for the control board is 6871JB1185B. The cost is around $110.00.

Q:

Why does it make a beeping noise whenever closing either door, unless both are done together?

A:

If the doors are not making good enough contact with the door switch, it will cause this beeping effect. Sometimes adding an extension to the door strike will correct this type of problem. There is no specific extension for this but there is a vacuum break # WR2X8905, that will stick on the end of the door strike and it works well. The problem could also be in the door switch # 6600JB2004A and it may need to be replaced. Both of these parts are available at Sears PartsDirect .
