Question and Answers

Q:

Replacement recommendation 72189940490 Kenmore Microwave

A:

Thank you for contacting SearsPartsDirect.com with your question about a replacement for your Kenmore microwave. I am so sorry to hear your current microwave has died. I know what a time saver the microwave is, so I am sure you would like to replace it as quickly as possible. I will be happy to help you with this.

Unfortunately we do not have a chart that says “If you had this model microwave, these are the compatible replacement models” To determine which microwaves will fit in the space of the old one, you will need to know the dimensions. I located that information on your current model. Please click on the image at the bottom of this thread.

With this information, I recommend going to www.Kenmore.com. Select kitchen, and then microwaves. Under the shop by category option, select microhood combinations. This will pull up the current models we have available. If you click on a microwave that interests you, you will be able to see the overview of the microwave as well as the specifications and dimensions. This is where you will find the information to determine if the microwave will fit in the space where your old microwave is installed.

You will also get additional important information searching this way. Information such as colors, watts, if the microwave vents inside or outside, the length of the power cord, which way the door opens, and if it has a child lock feature. If you have further questions about one of the models you see online, you can get additional assistance at 1-888-KENMORE (536-6673).

I am sorry I do not have a direct answer to your question. I hope this helps in your search for a new microwave. If I can be of further assistance please respond to this thread. Thank you for choosing Sears, we appreciate your business.

Q:

Kenmore Model# 721.89940490 when door is shut it begins running

A:

I know how important it is to have a good working microwave in the home so that you can reheat your meals. I did some research and I was able to find a link with a similar question. Microwaves carry a high voltage even when they are unplugged, I suggest you set service and have a certified technician service your microwave. I am adding a second link in where you can set service. I hope this helps with your microwave troubles while you wait for your expert response.

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

I am sorry, but we do not give repair information on microwave ovens because they are inherently dangerous to service. Microwaves contain high voltage internal components that can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is completely unplugged. Door repairs and adjustments, even minor ones, can cause microwave leakage, and a microwave shielding leakage test must be performed using a survey meter after any microwave service. That's why I strongly warn you to have this repair handled only by a qualified service technician. You can schedule service online with Sears Home Services or by calling 1-800-4-MY-HOME.

Normally at ManageMyLife.com we like to help you with all of your repairs, but our expert advice is that microwaves are just too dangerous.
