Q:

How do I remove my Kenmore microwave that is installed over my range?

A:

The microwave is normally held in place by a mounting bracket on the back wall behind the microwave and bolts that protrude through the cabinet above the microwave. Here are the general steps needed to remove a microwave from an over-the-range installation:

  • Unplug the microwave to completely disconnect electrical power.
  • Remove any items inside the microwave.
  • Tape the door of the microwave shut.
  • NOTE: You will normally need two people to complete the next steps to remove the microwave from the installation. You may also need to move the range that is installed under the microwave. Remove the mounting bolts from the cabinet above the microwave while supporting the unit to keep it from falling.
  • Tilt the microwave downward and carefully remove it from the mounting bracket on the wall behind the microwave.
These general steps should help you remove the microwave from the over-the-range installation. For more specific details, refer to the installation instructions that came with your microwave. Reverse the order of installation using these details if necessary.
