Q:

microwave

A:

I am sorry you are experiencing difficulties with your Microwave. Microwaves contain high voltage internal components that can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is completely unplugged. Door repairs and adjustments, even minor ones, can cause microwave leakage and a microwave shielding leakage test must be performed using a survey meter after any microwave service. I strongly suggest that you have this repair handled only by a qualified service technician. I have provided a link To Sears Home Services if you decide to schedule service. If you think it may be cost effective to just replace the unit, I have also provided a link to the Microwave section of Sears.com to price out what a replacement would cost.

Here is a link for the installation instructions on that microwave: Installation Manual . The damper should still be installed on the top of the microwave. You should be able to follow the guidelines in that installation manual to vent the microwave through the back wall. NOTE: I did not find the back wall template available for that microwave. You may be able to properly cut a vent hole in the back wall without that template. If not, then you may consider replacing the microwave with a new one instead of venting this one out the back.

If you need more help, let us know.

Q:

What does an F9 error message mean on my Kenmore Elite model 721.80869400 microwave?

A:

The F9 failure indicates a failure of the control relay, inverter or magnetron but it can also be caused by a loose connection or a voltage problem.

One thing you should try first is to plug something else like a hair dryer or light into the outlet and make sure there is not a voltage problem.

The other parts and connections should by checked by a technician and I don't recommend this as a do-it-yourself repair.

Microwaves are inherently dangerous to service. Internal capacitors can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is unplugged. A microwave radiation leakage test must be performed on the unit following any repair.

I recommend calling a service technician to repair this type of problem.
