Stirrer Motor Installation 72180523500 Kenmore Microwave/hood combo

Q:

Microwave door handle replacement

A:

Hello, Since you have already checked the schematics, I am sure the expert will be able to research and provide the information needed. It may take 24-48 hours. Often the reason the diagrams do not have more advice about do it yourself repair is due to safety concerns. An expert technician is often required for microwave repair. I attached the link for the scheduler if you decide to have a technician visit.

I am having the same issue. I have model #721.80523500 Kenmore microwave hood combo. The handle itself is fine. But, there is a white plastic piece that broke off where the handle is installed. Not sure whether to order a new handle, or whether the technician can fix it without having to get a new handle. Not sure how to take the back of the door off either. I don't want to worry about radiation leakage, so it may be best for the technician to do it.

The handle on a microwave door should only be replaced by a service technician. Essential door shielding needs to be removed and replaced properly to access screws that secure the handle to the door. Following this repair, a microwave radiation shielding test must be conducted on the unit using proper testing equipment. This is why a service technician is required.

Typical store reply. The Handle replaces in 10 minutes or less. Easy and do not listen that the door radiation test must be completed. It doesn't! There is a plastic that covers the screws and easily removed with fine screw driver or some straight edge. It comes out far enough without removing fully. The screws replace directly into the new handle. Handle for a molded piece is expensive! If you are at all handle I suggest trying this yourself. Saves a service call and unneeded expense.

Q:

Stirrer Motor 72180523500 Kenmore Microwave/hood combo

A:

Thank you for being Sears’ valued member and for contacting SearsPartsDirect.com with your question about your microwave. I am so sorry the stirrer motor needs to be replaced. In this case I recommend you have the microwave serviced by a qualified technician.

We do not give repair information on microwave ovens because they are inherently dangerous to service. Microwaves contain high voltage internal components that can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is unplugged from the power supply. You need special equipment to work on a microwave starting with an anti-static wrist strap grounded to the microwave to even test components in it. Even minor door repairs and adjustments can cause microwave leakage, and a microwave shielding leakage test MUST be performed using a survey meter after ANY/ALL microwave service.

For these safety reasons I strongly recommend having this repair completed by a qualified service technician. You can schedule service online at www.SearsHomeServices.com or by calling 1-800-4-MY-HOME (1-800-469-4663). Here at SearsPartsDirect.com we love to help you with your repairs, but our expert advice is that microwaves are just too dangerous for a do-it-yourself project.

Thank you for your understanding in this matter and I hope we can help you with any other questions and repairs in the future. Thank you for choosing Sears.
