There could be one of many possible failures preventing your microwave from heating food. Microwave ovens inherently store 10,000 volts or more even when unplugged which can cause serious bodily injuries or could be fatal. Internal capacitors can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is unplugged. A microwave radiation leakage test must be performed on the unit following any repair. For this reason DO NOT attempt to diagnose and repair your microwave yourself.

Check your settings on the microwave to make sure that it is set properly. Make sure that the door is closing properly on the microwave. If the microwave will still not heat, then I recommend having a service technician diagnose and repair the microwave. To schedule service, visit [Sears Home Services | www.searshomeservices.com]. The labor alone could cost around $130. Depending on the parts needing to be replaced the total estimated repair could be around $280. I hope this helps.

I understand that you are confident in your technical abilities since you perform industrial HVAC work but we do not provide that type of repair advice for microwaves. Servicing the microwave is inherently dangerous even for an experienced technician. The high voltage components can cause serious injury even when the unit is completely unplugged. Even after a repair, the technician will perform a microwave radiation shielding leakage test using proper testing equipment. These are the reasons why we recommend that you have the microwave serviced by a microwave technician. Here is a link for the Sears Service website: Sears Home Services .

Taking into the consideration the cost of a new microwave, I recommend that you consider replacing the unit instead of repairing it. Here is a Sears.com link for a moderately priced new model: Kenmore Stainless Steel 30 in. Microhood Combination - 8503 .
