A:

Thank you for contacting SearsPartsDirect.com with your questions about your Microwave. I am so sorry to hear that the microwave has stopped working. I know what a time saver the microwave can be and how inconvenient it is when it isn't working.

I can appreciate wanting to diagnose and repair the microwave yourself, however I strongly recommend against it. We do not give repair information on microwave ovens because they are inherently dangerous to service. Microwaves contain high voltage internal components that can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is completely unplugged. You need special equipment to work on a microwave starting with an anti-static wrist strap grounded to the microwave to even test components in it. Even minor door repairs and adjustments can cause microwave leakage, and a microwave shielding leakage test MUST be performed using a survey meter after any microwave service.

For these safety reasons I strongly recommend having this repair completed by a qualified service technician. You can schedule service online at www.SearsHomeServices.com or by calling 1-800-4-MY-HOME(1-800-469-4663). Here at SearsPartsDirect.com we love to help you with your repairs, but our expert advice is that microwaves are just too dangerous for a do-it-yourself project.

Thank you for your understanding in this matter and I hope we can help you with any other questions and repairs in the future. Thank you for choosing Sears.

Microwave flashing light and vibrating and making sounds 72166469500 Kenmore Microwave

A:

Thank you for contacting SearsPartsDirect.com with your questions about your Kenmore microwave. I am so sorry to hear it has suddenly started vibrating, flashing lights and making sounds. I will be happy to help you weigh your options between repairing or replacing the microwave.

Please note: Testing and repairing a microwave should only be done by a qualified technician because microwave ovens are inherently dangerous to service. Microwaves contain high voltage internal components that can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is unplugged from the outlet. Special equipment is needed to work on a microwave.

To help you decide if you want to invest your money towards a repair, I priced some of the main components in the microwave for you. Smaller parts such as a capacitor or thermostat are usually less than $20.00 plus the labor costs for the technician. If it is a major component such as the magnetron or the controller, then the price of the part is probably going to be in the $60.00 to $90.00 range. Again, you would also need to include the labor costs. If you would like to check Sears' labor charges and/or have a Sears technician diagnose and repair the microwave you can set up service at www.SearsHomeServices.com or by calling 1-800-469-4663.

To see the cost of a new microwave, I have included the link for you to view the new microwaves currently available from Sears.

I hope this helps. If you need further assistance, please resubmit your question with additional details. Thank you for choosing Sears and using our SearsPartsDirect.com service.
