The light in this microwave is an internal component that should only be accessed and replaced by a service technician. I recommend that you take the microwave into a Sears Repair Center to have the light bulb replaced. Does the plastic window cover on my microwave model 721.66029500 need to be taken off?

What you are describing is a plastic shield tape that should remain on the inside of the microwave door. It is designed to stay in place. Do not remove this plastic. You can continue to use the microwave with this plastic covering properly in place.
