Q:

Why canopy in microwave burned?

A:

I can understand how frustrating this would be for you. I would suggest that you reply with a little more information on the issue. What was the microwave doing with it sparked? What part of the microwave is burned? It is next to the control panel? Has this happen before? Please reply with this, so we can give you a more detailed answer.

Using the microwave to melt chocolate in a plastic, microwave safe container. The canopy looked like it sparked and caught fire. What is the function of a canopy? It basically looks like a cover on the top, right side of Kenmore microwave oven model # 721.62464201. That canopy is a cover over the magnetron and other internal components. You probably had a short in the wiring or a component that caused this failure. It is impossible to determine the exact cause of the problem that caused the sparking and burning. The microwave will probably not be economical to repair unless it is under warranty. I recommend that you replace the unit if the warranty coverage has ended.

This is an unusual failure. All microwaves (and other appliances) are susceptible to electro-mechanical failures such as this one that you encountered. There are electrical safeguards in place such as fuses and breakers that will normally protect you from a serious fire or electrical danger. Once you replace the microwave, you will not likely encounter further problems.

You can view current new models of microwaves on the Sears.com website.
