Thanks very much for your reply. However, the pictures in the detailed instructions were too grainy and out of focus to be of help and the written step-by-step instructions weren't of much use without pictures. I still can't tell how to access the area where the power cord is connected to the motor or motor housing. Any additional help you can give me will be appreciated.

Without the model number I can only give you a general answer.

If this does not work for you please include the complete model number and I will be glad to help you further.

Sam: Thanks, but I am having trouble releasing the plastic casing from the outside of the electrical compartment to get at the wiring The screws (which are fewer than 11) don't allow me to open it. I don't want to force anything for fear of breaking the plastic. I am also a neophyte with this "Managemylife" site and wonder of maybe Alina F. who seems to work with/for Sears can follow your thread.

Thank you for the update. I am going to use the parts breakdown to see if this will work better for describing how the remove the power cord. Remove the handle screw #43 and slide back the handle. Then remove #11 cover by removing the 2 # 38 screws and should expose the compartment in the dust box with the cord connections and the strain relief. Squeeze the strain relief with a pair of pliers and then release the cord connections from the start switch. I hope this will work better for you. Thank you for using Mange My Life.

QUESTION: How can I disassemble the appropriate part of the Kenmore 721.37060700 so that I can access/replace the power cord. The power cord on my Kenmore 721.37060700 shorts out, causing intermittent starts and stops, depending on how the cord is tensioned. It needs replacing or repair, but I can't open the housing to get to the cord. I have removed the 4 obvious screws, but the housing is still too tightly attached to remove. Any suggestions?
