Q:

ice maker not making ice

A:

Thank you for your question. I am sorry you are having problems with the ice maker. I am not sure if the ice tray is not filling or not harvesting. If the ice maker is not filling, press and hold the fill key for about 3 seconds. If there is no water, check the fill tube to make sure it is not frozen. Check the connections to the water valve and make sure the tubes are not kinked. If the tube is not frozen, the water valve is faulty and will need to be replaced. The valve is part #AJU72992601 .  There are two solenoids on the water valve; one feeds the water dispenser and one feeds the ice maker.  If the tray fills but no ice is made, verify the temperature in the ice maker compartment is below 10 degrees. Verify the ice tray compartment closes completely. Verify cold air is coming out of the vents normally. If both the above are good, allow time for the ice maker to complete cycle. At least 120 minutes is needed from the time the trays fill with water. If the problem continues, use the second image below to perform further tests. If additional help is needed, please reply.  Thank you for using Manage My Life.

Thank you for your reply. Upon closer inspection it looks like maybe its not harvesting ice (not dumping it out of the ice maker), there is ice still in the tray. I pushed the fill button and nothing happens. I also performed the ice sensor tests and it checked out ok. What now?

A:

Hi Lance. Thank you for the reply and additional information. The ice tray should twist and drop the ice into the bin during the harvest cycle. Since it is not, check the "real" temperature in the ice tray compartment (not on display). The temperature has to be below 0 degrees to drop the ice. If the ice maker tray is not moving and the temperature is correct, If the ice maker will not harvest, the ice maker assembly will likely need to be replaced.

Thank You for using ManageMyLife.com

I'm sorry to hear your new fridge is not working correctly. The first thing that comes to mind is how was it transported? If the fridge was laying down at any point during the delivery most of the refrigerant and the oil in the system came out of the compressor. The refrigerant mixed with the oil and can get into the evaporator coils. It's possible the oil may be stuck in the evaporator now and could be creating a restriction in the system.

If you have further questions please let me know.
