Q:

how to get ice from the kenmore elite refrigertor model# 795.7132

A:

Thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect.com and being a valued member.  I can certainly understand how frustrating it can be when you are not getting ice in your refrigerator.

I have found information that will assist you. I recommend testing the ice maker to see what is wrong.

1. Check the temperature of the freezer becasue if it is fewer than 17 degrees F it wont make ice.
2.Check if your water fill spout is plugged with ice, if it is then it wont make ice.
3. Check to see if water is getting to the water inlet valve.
4.Use an OHM meter to check the continuity of the water inlet valve. If it does not have any continuity then you need to replace your water valve. If it does then the icemaker itself is the problem and may need to be replaced.

Hi James, Thanks for your reply. The attached link refers to a "light switch" for the same model, but does not mention any of the error messages or symptoms related to fan noise

Today the error messages are gone and the unit appears to be working fine. I am concerned that previous fan noises suggest that that the evaporator fan motor is failing (albeit slowly). Input from the expert on changing this motor would still be appreciated.

If the fan motor is running but making a noise and the fan blade is not hitting anything, you know the motor is bad. If the fan motor stops running, you need to test the voltage to the motor. The evaporator fan motor receives 6-12 volts dc to operate. If you have this voltage going to the motor, and it is not running, the motor is bad. If the motor is not running and you have no voltage to it, the control board is bad.

The part number and price of the evaporator fan motor are:

46 253 241509402 1 $71.32 25344333600 Motor,evaporator fan

You probably can't pick up the fan motor at a Sears Retail Store. You can buy the fan motor at a Sears Parts and Service Center or order it at Parts Direct

To replace the fan motor, disconnect the power to the refrigerator and remove the food from the freezer.

Remove the screws holding the evaporator cover to the rear wall of the freezer. The fan motor is mounted to the rear of the evaporator cover.

If the freezer or refrigerator door was left ajar, frost might have accumulated on the evaporator and the fan blade was hitting the frost. When the refrigerator went through a defrost cycle, the frost would have been removed. I hope that is what happened to your refrigerator.
