I recommend you CLICK HERE and review the transmission service information on page 19 of the manual for information regarding changing the transmission oil and filter for your tractor. If changing the transmission oil/filter does not change anything with the gear being stuck I would have to think there is an internal transmission problem causing this to happen. For that you would very likely be best served having the tractor serviced by a technician.

To adjust the governor:

  • Hold the throttle in the wide open position.
  • Then loosen the nut on the governor arm at the governor shaft coming from inside the engine.
  • Then turn the governor shaft in the same direction towards wide open throttle.
  • Now tighten the governor arm back up onto the governor shaft.

More than likely the internal governor gear has spun off the shaft and come apart. If you grab the governor arm and cannot control the speed by doing that, then there is a problem with the carburetor. The carburetor causing this problem is not very likely but it does happen from time to time.
