The Refrigerator is one of the most important appliances in the home and by far a must need. So I am understanding your concern over the issue that is currently happening. That known issue applied to Kenmore refrigerators with model 795.77549600 up to serial number 704KRxxxxx. Based on your serial number (706KR00061), that refrigerator should have the updated control board, wire harness and socket. I cannot guarantee that your failure would be covered under that lifetime warranty that covered the model 795.77549600 up to serial number 704KRxxxxx. Since your refrigerator is outside of the serial number range, you may need to pay for the labor service charge and parts to fix that problem. You can still schedule service but it will be up to the technician whether the parts and labor costs will be charged or not. If you need more help with this problem, reply with additional details and we will try to assist you further.

thanks for your reply. I'm bummed my frig is not in the correct serial number range. I just double checked and I definately had the correct number. I scheduled an appointment, but they can not come for 2 weeks. I took the bulbs out of the socket and put the plastic cover back on. I was worried about the extreme heat that was being generated. Do you think the exposed sockets with the plastic over them will be safe for 2 weeks? thanks!

A:

Yes. Since the bulbs are removed, the refrigerator will be safe. It should operate normally even though you will not have light on the inside. Sorry for the delay in the service. If you need more help, let us know.

I have a a Kenmore Elite trio model number 795.77713700 and serial number 706KR00089. The problem I 'm having is that the interior light was delayed in coming on when the doors opened and now the lights do not come on at all. I tried the 3 trouble shooting steps in the manual to no avail and tested the light but bulbs in a lamp to ensure they were working which they are. Any suggestions?

Hello Brian. According to your model and serial number, that refrigerator should have a thermostat in that refrigerator light circuit. I provided a wiring diagram in the image below with that light circuit traced in pink and blue. That thermostat is shown in the second image. I recommend that you UNPLUG the refrigerator and check that thermostat for continuity as shown in the brief repair video that I provided below this response. If that thermostat is "electrically" open (has no continuity) then it will need to be replaced. You can order that part from this link: Lamp Harness with Safety Thermostat for Kenmore Refrigerator 795.7713700 . Be sure that you UNPLUG the refrigerator before accessing and replacing internal components. If that safety thermostat is okay, you could have a wiring failure or a bad control board causing this problem. Reply with additional details if you need more assistance.

The image below shows how to remove the light bulbs in the refrigerator. Unplug the refrigerator and let the light bulbs cool down for a few minutes. Use a pair of gloves or a cloth to prevent burns on your fingers if you remove the bulbs while they are still warm (or hot). NOTE: There is a known issue with the lights staying on in that model of refrigerator. Within certain serial number ranges, the repair (including any damage to the socket and liner) is covered by an extension of the manufacturer's warranty (for the life of the refrigerator). I recommend that you reply with the serial number of your refrigerator and we will check to see if your refrigerator should be covered by that extended warranty for that problem.

Lyle W - I have the following Kenmore refridgerator. Model # 795.77316600 Serial # 603MREN00028 Is it part of any extended manufacturer's warranty based on a known issue. The reason I ask is the lighting in mine previously overheated and warped the plastic light/temperature control housing.

Kenmore Elite Fridge 79577546600 interior lights sometimes work

Thanks! I guess I should call them..but what is the problem with this unit's interior lights? Sometimes they come on now and sometimes not. I took apart the connectors at the door hinges just to free up possible corrosion but that did nothing....

Dan - I do not know what the actual problem is. I understand that the later models have LED lights which do not get hot. However I have also come across a couple of posts where the posters' state that the LED lights are staying on.

Thank you for your question. I can understand your concern about the lights. There is a relay on the main control board housed on the back panel of the refrigerator that controls the lights along with the door switch. The main board # 6871JB1423N and a new light socket harness assembly # 6621JK2003B will need to be installed. NOTE: There is a known issue with this model of Kenmore Elite refrigerator regarding the refrigerator lights staying on. The manufacturer warranty has been extended for the life of the refrigerator to cover this type of failure. The repair should be covered along with any damage that occurred to the light reflector and cover. I recommend that you call Sears at 1-800-469-4663 (1-800-4MY-HOME) to schedule a Sears Technician to fix this problem. You will likely need to agree to a service charge for the repair to be set up in the system. Once the technician visits your home and verifies that the failure is caused by this known issue, the parts and labor should be covered. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

this fridge has regular incadescent bulbs..would you think it would be covered by the class action? The Fridge is probably about 5 years old. I am pretty handy and can replace the parts myself, but I rather not replace the electronics w/o some troubleshooting on my part if I can even do it!

Dan, this model is listed on the flash for the light problem. Now, I strongly recommend having a technician make this repair under warranty. A technician has to make the repair for the warranty to be in effect.

I just called Sears and as you all have stated my fridge is under a recall notice.. I never received such notice.. They told me at first that I would be sent a repair kit and upon getting the kit to call them back to schedule a service appointment..seems kind of a protracted method to solve this problem..
