Q:

Fan/Vent Won't Turn Off 72185032111 Kenmore Microwave

A:

Thank you for contacting SearsPartsDirect.com with your questions about your Kenmore microwave. I am so sorry to hear the fan keeps turning itself on. I know what a time saver the microwave is and know you want to get it working correctly as quickly as possible. In this case, I recommend leaving it unplugged until you can have it tested and repaired by a qualified technician.

We do not give advice on repairing microwave ovens because they are inherently dangerous to service. Microwaves contain high voltage internal components that can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is unplugged from the outlet. You need special equipment to work on a microwave starting with an anti-static wrist strap grounded to the microwave to even test components in it. Even minor door repairs and adjustments can cause microwave leakage, and a microwave shielding leakage test MUST be performed using a survey meter after any microwave service.

For these safety reasons I strongly recommend having this repair completed by a qualified service technician. You can schedule service online at www.SearsHomeServices.com or by calling 1-800-4-MY-HOME (1-800-469-4663). Here at SearsPartsDirect.com we love to help you with your repairs, but our expert advice is that microwaves are just too dangerous for a do-it-yourself project.Thank you for your understanding in this matter and I hope we can help you with your future questions and repairs. Thank you for choosing Sears and using our SearsPartsDirect.com service.

Why would I have a tech fix my unit that's only 14 months old and used for 4 months a year and pay somewhere around $100 to $150 for a $3.50 parts to be installed because it's a microwave, when the microwave only cost $200 new. I'll just go out and buy a new microwave that is not made by Kenmore/Sears. It's a shame your product is so poorly made that it breaks down so soon and cost more to repair than to buy a new one. Not Good. But I will spread the word. Trust me. Remember, on average people tell only 2 people when they have a good experience and 14 when they have a bad experience with a product or service and those 14 people will tell another 6. Feel free to send me an email reply if your interested in any additional information. Tks.

I have to agree with "Anonymous". We have had the same problem with our Kenmore microwave. I definitely will not go Kenmore when I replace this dud!

Yep, I'm in the same boat. My microwave fan magically goes on! I have unplugged it because it's obnoxious and expensive. Was it on a recall list somewhere? Seems like I'm not alone, here. I will be replacing it with one that isn't a Kenmore, for sure! I've been a Kenmore fan a long time, but I'm looking elsewhere.

Same problem. Just over two years old. Fan stays on when I open the door. $85 just to come out and tell me I need a new board. No thanks I'll go buy a new one. It won't be a Kenmore. Kenmore dishwasher was bought at the same time and the top rack broke in less than a year. I fixed it myself. Had Frigidaire before at old house and both appliances were eight years old and working fine when we moved. Sears saleswomen called Frigidaire, Frigiscare when we were looking two years ago at appliances. Well Kenmore has also changed its name, Kenpoor. What poor quality.

One of the relay contacts in one of the fan relays is likely welded shut on the control board and the control board will need to be replaced.

Microwaves contain high-voltage components that can retain a lethal electrical charge of up to 2200 VDC -- even when the microwave is unplugged. Repairs and adjustments, even minor ones such as replacing fuses, can cause microwave leakage. A microwave shielding leakage test should be performed after any microwave service.

It is for these safety reasons that we are unable to guide you in microwave repairs and instead recommend scheduling service with a qualified service technician.

My Kenmore microwave oven has the same issue. The device not yet 3 years old and stopped working the other day while my wife was re-heating here coffee. I troubleshot the device and found one of the TCO (thermal cut offs) was open. I ordered a replacement and installed it. The microwave came back to life, but oddly, the two speed vent fan was on and would not turn off unless the power was removed. It would change speed from low to high, but stayed on. We saw no alternative other than replacing the main PC board. A VERY EXPENSIVE alternative. The new (maybe) board came in from Sears Parts and I replaced it. A simple job... but the fan continued to run. The only way I seem to be able to turn the fan off with power on is to interrupt wire V1 which runs from CN202 pin 7 to the vent motor. This makes me believe that Sears replaced my bad PCB with an equally bad PCB. Any comments from technicians with experience with this microwave? BTW my background is electrical engineering MSEE, with years working on radars, but I usually leave appliances to the experts. JR

Q:

Maytag refrigerator control panel lights are flashing and the ice door opens and closes constantly. How do I stop this?

A:

When an appliance doesn't work properly or gives out it can be very disappointing because you don't really know what is wrong with it or you might even have to buy a whole different appliance. A suggestion I have for you while you are waiting on your response from an expert. I found this great link on your appliances. I have attached the link below if you are interested in viewing while waiting on your response from an expert. Hope this helps, good luck

This is a known issue and to correct this problem, the control board will need to be replaced. Unfortunately, without a model number, I will not be able to give you any specific information. To get the correct board a complete model and serial number will be needed.

I had the exact same problem. When I called I was told it was not covered because my unit was 6 years old. I mention the recall I read about on this site and they said there were no recalls on my frig. When I pushed a little more they finally said they would cover it and set up a appointment. So if they tell you it's not cover hold your ground.

Mine started doing the exact same thing last night. I called Maytag today and she acted like she has never heard of the problem. My refrigerator is only a little over 2 years old. She said my particular model has not had this problem. I told her apparently this is a ongoing problem with any Maytag with the electronic panel. All she kept offering is for me to buy additional warranty for $360!!!! Unbelievable.... I was finally so disgusted I hung up. I will NEVER buy another Maytag appliance. There customer service I experienced today was the worst ever!!!!! Nothing like spending more for the Maytag name and having problems with a $2000 plus appliance in such a short period of time and they do absolutely NOTHING about it.

Linda, I'm very sorry about the problem you're experiencing. I know it's frustrating. Now, this is not a problem with any Maytag that has an electronic control panel. I'm attaching a list of the affected models below. Please let me know if your model is on this list. To be able to assist you further, I will need to know the complete model and serial number of your refrigerator and I will be glad to assist you.

My tractor is 5 months old and I am experiencing the same problem of the pedals (forward and reverse)becoming stuck requiring my kicking the pedals very hard to disengage from one direction to the other. Several times I feared there was a breakage internally because of this. Reverse has always been "sluggish and slow", but forward now seems to be slower than it used to be. Every since the Kmart Corporation purchased Sears, -service centers, parts as well as service has suffered to the point I will not purchase another Lawn Tractor through Sears ever again.

Glad you found an answer. I haven't found anything out from anywhere else. Just seems like the transaxle should last more than the 25 hours I have on this tractor. I'm going to bring it in the garage tomorrow and take the deck off and check all the linkages etc. If you don't mind me asking how much is a new transaxle?

The tractor was to have been fixed yesterday but the transaxle is on backorder. I'm now scheduled for next Monday (11/2). Phil, since the repair is under warranty it won't cost me anything, but according to the receipt the repairman left me the parts would have cost about $700, labor about $300 (including sales tax). That includes a couple of other related minor parts.
