Q:

Aligning garage door sensors - how precise?

A:

A garage door opener is definitely something we depend on and when it begins to malfunction it can be a huge inconvenience. While you are waiting for an expert to respond, I have attached some helpful links below that may provide information to assist you with your question.

Anytime there is a problem with the sensors or sensor alignment the main light will flash 10 times when the door reverses to the open position. You can have a bad RPM sensor board that will cause the door to reverse but the main light will not flash. Make sure this is not your problem.

Yes, the main light flashes 10 times, and the amber signal light flashes 4, which is supposed to indicate sensor alignment. Both sensors are green and steady. The door will close if you hold the button down until it's closed.

Some of this you may have already done but try it again just to be sure. You can check the sensor voltages also. Make sure the small light on each sensor is on and not flickering ever so slightly. (check closely) Tweak them a little even though they may seem to be okay. Check for 5vdc between terminals 2 and 3 on the rear of the motor unit. If there is no voltage or if it is greater than 6vdc the logic board is bad.

The information provide by aashe is very good. This explains that the door sensors need to be in perfect alignment in order to work. You will see a steady glowing light on each of the sensors. If one of the lights is off, they will not allow the door to close. I would suggest that you begin by replacing the sensors. These are available at the local store. However, if both lights are on and steady, then it will be either the logic board or the RPM sensor that is going bad. These repairs I would recommend you have a technician diagnose and repair. If you need further assistance, please reply to this thread.

Don / Anne - Thanks for the info; both sensor lights are steady, terminals 2- 3 read 0 vdc. I'm able to close the door all the way by holding the button down; originally it would just reverse and I'd have to press it twice to stop it Can I find this board somewhere besides Sears? Their prices are a touch high.

You can call locally to any Chamberlain dealer and check prices. The only other thing I can think of is e-bay and I don't know how reliable that would be.

I'm also noticing that the sensors aren't wired as described in the manual; the manual says twist the whites together and put into white connector; twist the black and red together and put into grey connector. My board has each wire in a separate connector - which is correct?

This could be your problem but I can't believe it ever worked right if the wiring is wrong. Normally you will have a white wire with a red stripe going to terminal #1. Three solid white wires going to terminal #2 and two white wires with a black stripe going to terminal #3. This is if the installer used the wiring that came with the opener. If the house was pre wired anything goes.

Don -Since I read the voltages 37 min ago, the board now is happy as a clam, and the door works just fine! Thanks for all of your help.

Q:

exercise bike model

A:

Exercise may be just as effective if not tracked but it is hard to maintain focus on the goal if the display is not working. While you wait for the expert review, you can check a similar question for a slightly different model of Weslo. I attached below. I also added the owner's manual for your model below for additional information. Hope this information helps you get back to your exercise routine.

You could have a defective reed switch, broken wire from the reed switch to the console, or a defective console.

The answer Barbara H sent has a good description of testing the reed switch. I would start by disconnecting the reed switch from the console. Connect an ohm meter across the pins in the reed switch connector and rotate the pedals slowly. If the reed switch is showing 0-2 ohms when the magnet in the flywheel passes it, the console is bad.

To remove the left side panel, you have to remove the left pedal. Turn the pedal clockwise to unscrew it from the crank arm.

The part number and price of the reed switch and the console are:

06 831 185207 1 $9.99 831283100 REED SWITCH/WIRE 06 831 185850 1 $66.99 831283100 CONSOLE

You can order the console or reed switch at Parts Direct If you are not comfortable diagnosing and repairing the exercise bike, you can go to Home Services and get a Sears technician to repair the bike.
