Question and Answers

Q:

Kenmore Ultra Bake oven ....display light for the oven temperature is so dim that can hardly see it.

A:

The display being dim can keep you from reading the temperature properly and I will be happy to help. I suggest you add to the thread of this question and include the full model number of your range so that the expert can provide you with a more detailed answer. I am adding a link below to help you with your question while you wait for your expert response.

A:

Thank you for your question on the dim display on the control panel.

I am sorry but in order to have a bright display again, it will require that you purchase a new oven control. Apparently the voltage that the control board supplies to the display is slowly failing.

Without the model number I cannot give you the part number for the control. I you would please reply with the model number I will be happy to help you.

Q:

What is the highest temperature that a 2500 watt electric stove burner gets to?

A:

There is a thermal limiter on the elements that protects the glass cook top from heat damage. This thermal limiter opens at about 1000 degrees.

I strongly recommend that you do not attempt to alter the range by replacing the glass cook top with a heat resistant glass surface that you are describing. This could create a dangerous situation.

If the glass top needs to be replaced, I only recommend using the original glass top that is designed for the product.

Q:

Why does one of my surface indicators stay on even if the element is off?

A:

You did not tell me which indicator stays on. I am including a wiring diagram (see image below) that will show you the voltage path through the infinite switch (knob used to turn the burners on) to the surface indicator light, and through the limiter (which is inside the element) to the hot surface indicator light. I have also included an illustrated set of teardown instructions (see image below) that will show you how to gain access to the switches and elements.

If the light you are talking about is one of the surface indicator lights you will need to check each one of the infinite switches. To do so, follow the instructions below for each of the infinite switches.

  • Unplug the unit, unplug the blue wire at one of the infinite switches and tape the end of the wire to insulate it (_do not let the bare end of the wire touch any metal surface_). Plug your range back in.
    • If the light stays off you have found the bad infinite switch. It will need to be replaced.
    • If the light stays on, unplug the unit, reattach the blue wire and repeat the above process until you have done this with each infinite switch.

If the light you are talking about is one of the hot surface indicator lights you will need to check each one of the elements. To do so, follow the instructions below for each of the elements.

  • Unplug the unit, disconnect each element. Plug the range back in.
    • If the light stays off the element is bad and will need to be replaced. If the light comes on unplug the unit, connect the element back up, and repeat the above process until you have done this with each element.

If you require further assistance please resubmit question with details of the checks you have made. I will be looking forward to helping you again in the near future.

If you are not already sure you can perform these checks safely and competently, refer this work to a qualified professional. Working with live electrical current can be very hazardous and possibly deadly. Testing voltage output requires working with electrical current. Do not attempt these measurements without the proper tools and safeguards.
