Question and Answers

Q:

Gas Dual Oven - bottom oven unit won't heat up 665.78002801

A:

See if the igniter in that bottom oven is glowing when you set that oven in the bake mode. If the igniter is glowing, then all of the components in the circuit are likely okay except for the igniter. Although the igniter is glowing, it is not heating to a point where it will light the burner. Here is a link for a brief video that explains the ignition process in that type of gas oven: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M02AIkraWH0

If the igniter is not glowing, then you could have a bad electronic control board, a wiring failure, a completely failed igniter or a defective gas valve. Reply with additional details if you need help with diagnosing and repairing one of these failures.

Unplug the range and shut off the gas supply before accessing internal components and replacing parts.

I know that it can be very difficult to have issues with your oven. This type of problem is normally caused by a malfunction in the control board. However, in order to determine this you will need to run a diagnostic test on the unit. The image below will provide the testing information for you. If you decide to have service on the range, I would recommend that you turn off the breaker or unplug it if you are not using it. This will prevent it from coming on. I hope this helps. If you need further assistance, please reply to this thread. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

Q:

I have a Kenmore Double oven gas range. When I turn on a burner the lower oven automatically turns itself on. Can I do something myself to fix it?

A:

A range that has an oven that starts when you select a top burner to heat sounds very dangerous and I will be more than happy to be of some help. While you are waiting for an expert answer, I did manage to find a link that will provide you with more information about your problem. I hope my link is useful.

Thank you for your question.

I can understand your concern on the way the range is operating. This is not a normal function.

  • Due to the complexity of this problem and because this is a gas appliance, I would suggest that you have a service technician check out your range.

you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

I hope this will help.
