Question and Answers

Q:

What does the E3 F1 error code mean on my Kenmore Gas Range - Model No. 655-75849002?

A:

The E3 F1 error code indicates a Fuel Type Failure. The control board on the Kenmore ranges and ovens that use this error code can detect whether the control board programming is set for electric (E) or gas (9). The troubleshooting for this failure is to unplug the range or shut off the breaker to completely kill power for 30 seconds. After powering the unit back up, hold the CANCEL and START/ENTER keys for 5 seconds. You should see "E" for electric or "9" for gas. If you have an gas range and the "E" is showing for electric, then the electronic oven control board will likely need to be replaced. The opposite is true if you have a gas range or oven.

The E3-F1 does not have anything to do with the igniter. If you kill the power and the correct designation comes up after restoring power and pressing the designated keys then the range may resume normal operation and could be okay. If the E3 F1 error code returns, then you will likely need to replace the electronic oven control board.

If you do not feel comfortable performing this task, I recommend having a technician come out to diagnose and repair your appliance. You can call 1-800-803-6775 to discuss your repair options.
