Q:

Sears Microwave Repair

A:

I am sorry you are experiencing difficulties with your Microwave. Microwaves contain high voltage internal components that can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is completely unplugged. Door repairs and adjustments, even minor ones, can cause microwave leakage and a microwave shielding leakage test must be performed using a survey meter after any microwave service. I strongly suggest that you have this repair handled only by a qualified service technician. I have provided a link To Sears Home Services if you decide to schedule service. If you think it may be cost effective to just replace the unit, I have also provided a link to the Microwave section of Sears.com to price out what a replacement would cost.

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

The "F7" fault code implies the voltage supply to the magnetron was interrupted. You could try disconnecting the power cord from the power source for 40 seconds and then re-apply power and see if it resolves the issue.

If it doesn't, you will need to call a service technician to diagnose and repair your microwave.

I am sorry, but we do not give repair information on microwave ovens because they are inherently dangerous to service. Microwaves contain high voltage internal components that can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is completely unplugged. Door repairs and adjustments, even minor ones, can cause microwave leakage, and a microwave shielding leakage test must be performed using a survey meter after any microwave service. That's why I strongly warn you to have this repair handled only by a qualified service technician. You can schedule service online with Sears Home Services or by calling 1-800-4-MY-HOME.

Normally at ManageMyLife.com we like to help you with all of your repairs, but our expert advice is that microwaves are just too dangerous.

You can schedule service online with Sears Home Services or by calling 1-800-4-MY-HOME. We thank you for your understanding in this matter and hope we can help you with other questions and repairs in the future.

Q:

How much does a membrane and control board for a Kenmore Microwave cost?

A:

Having a appliance not work can be a bit pricey to fix. When I want to know the price of a part I go onto the Sears Parts Direct website you can find prices on parts so you can get a quoting on how much you will spend if you buy and put on yourself or if you have a technician go out and help you. I have attached the link below if you are interested in viewing the website while waiting on your response from an expert. Hope this helps, good luck!

According to the parts diagram for your microwave the membrane comes with a new control panel. The parts list for your microwave shows 4 colors of control panels. You can go to www.searspartsdirect.com and select the control panel that matches your microwave.

The control panel and membrane are fairly simple to replace. Disconnect the power to the microwave and remove the screw at the top of the control panel to release it. You might need to remove the grill across the top of the microwave to access this screw. The control panel will pull out from the top and remove.

I have included the part number and price for a white control panel and membrane. If the electronic control board is bad I have included that price also. If the cost of parts exceeds $100.00 I would consider replacing the microwave.

Q:

What does the F-2 error code indicate on my Kenmore Elite microwave model 665.63792304?

A:

According to the technical information on this microwave, there appears to be an error code F2K and F2T. The F2K indicates a problem with the touch panel or the electronic control board. Normally a key is stuck or was pressed for more than one minute. A failure in the electronic control board could cause this fault code.

The F2T code is virtually the same. A key on the panel was pressed for more than 1 minute or is stuck. Again, a failed electronic control board could also cause this fault code.

I recommend that you call a service technician to diagnose and repair this microwave failure. Microwaves are inherently dangerous to service. This is not considered a do-it-yourself type of repair. Internal capacitors in the microwave can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the unit is completely unplugged. A microwave radiation leakage test must be performed on the unit following any internal component repair. These are the reason that I recommend having a service technician repair the microwave.
