Question and Answers

Q:

we had a cup arch to the inlet cover, Now the micro wave smokes when in use. Do I just replace the plastic inlet cover to repair the problem? 66561701100 Kenmore Microwave/hood combo

A:

Thank you for contacting SearsPartsDirect.com with your questions about your Kenmore Microwave/Hood. I am so sorry it smokes when it is in use. Because there was an electrical arch from the cup to the inlet cover, I recommend you unplug the microwave immediately and do not use it until it has been serviced by a qualified technician.  Replacing the inlet cover will not correct the condition that caused it to arch initially.

We do not give repair information on microwave ovens because they are inherently dangerous to service. Microwaves contain high voltage internal components that can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is completely unplugged. You need special equipment to work on a microwave starting with an anti-static wrist strap grounded to the microwave to even test components in it. Even minor door repairs and adjustments can cause microwave leakage, and a microwave shielding leakage test MUST be performed using a survey meter after ANY/ALL microwave service.

For these safety reasons I strongly recommend having this repair completed by a qualified service technician. You can schedule service online at www.SearsHomeServices.com or by calling 1-800-4-MY-HOME (1-800-469-4663). Here at SearsPartsDirect.com we love to help you with your repairs, but our expert advice is that microwaves are just too dangerous for a do-it-yourself project.

Thank you for your understanding in this matter and I hope we can help you with any other questions and repairs in the future. Thank you for choosing Sears.

A:

Thank you for your question. I'm sorry but we do not assist in troubleshooting microwave failures here at MML. Microwaves inherently store 10,000 volts and over even with the microwave unplugged, which can cause serious personal injury or even be fatal. Be sure to check the wall plug incase there is no voltage supply. You can try plugging in a lamp or radio to see if the plug is working.

We recommend calling 1-800-803-6775 to get a service technician out to diagnose and repair your microwave.

Q:

What would cause my Kenmore microwave hood vent to display "F6" and sound like it's running?

A:

The "F6" fault code indicates a microwave relay failure. NOTE: Disconnect the power cord from the power source and do not use the microwave until it has been repaired.

The control board will most likely need to be removed and replace. You will need to call a service technician to diagnose and repair your microwave. You can call Sears at 1-800-469-4663 to set up a service appointment.
