Question and Answers

Q:

installing Catch Part #: 8169321 66561632100 Kenmore Microwave/hood combo

A:

hank you for being Sears’ valued member and for contacting SearsPartsDirect.com with your question about your microwave/hood combo. I am so sorry you are having difficulty installing the catch. In this case I recommend you have the microwave serviced by a qualified technician.

We do not give repair information on microwave ovens because they are inherently dangerous to service. Microwaves contain high voltage internal components that can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is unplugged from the power supply. You need special equipment to work on a microwave starting with an anti-static wrist strap grounded to the microwave to even test components in it. Even minor door repairs and adjustments can cause microwave leakage, and a microwave shielding leakage test MUST be performed using a survey meter after ANY/ALL microwave service.

For these safety reasons I strongly recommend having this repair completed by a qualified service technician. You can schedule service online at www.SearsHomeServices.com or by calling 1-800-4-MY-HOME (1-800-469-4663). Here at SearsPartsDirect.com we love to help you with your repairs, but our expert advice is that microwaves are just too dangerous for a do-it-yourself project.

Thank you for your understanding in this matter and I hope we can help you with any other questions and repairs in the future. Thank you for choosing Sears.

Q:

Kenmore Microwave Model 665-61632100

A:

I am sorry you are experiencing difficulties with your Microwave.  Microwaves contain high voltage internal components that can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is completely unplugged. Door repairs and adjustments, even minor ones, can cause microwave leakage and a microwave shielding leakage test must be performed using a survey meter after any microwave service. I strongly suggest that you have this repair handled only by a qualified service technician. I have provided a link to Sears Home Services if you decide to schedule service. If you think it may be cost effective to just replace the unit, I have also provided a link to the microwave section of Sears.com to price out what a replacement would cost.

A:

Thank you for contacting ManageMyLife.com regarding your Kenmore microwave not powering on. I see Yadira provided you with some excellent safety information.

It is likely that the microwave has a blown fuse but that type of internal component failure will need to be diagnosed and repaired by a technician. Microwaves contain high-voltage components that can retain a lethal electrical charge of up to 2200 VAC -- even when the microwave is unplugged. Repairs and adjustments, even minor ones such as replacing fuses, can cause microwave leakage. A microwave shielding leakage test MUST be performed after any microwave service.

It is for these safety reasons that we are unable to guide you in microwave repairs and instead recommend scheduling service with a qualified service technician. You can schedule service online with Sears Home Services or by calling 1-800-4-MY-HOME.

We thank you for your understanding in this matter and hope we can help you with other questions and repairs in the future. Thank you for using ManageMyLife.com.
