Hi Patti,

Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life.

The model number you gave me is incomplete, without your model number I am only able to give you general information.

This most likely is an issue with the touchpad (console) having a shorted or stuck button. If you would like specific help with your dishwasher, please reply to this post with the complete model number and more details. The model number should be located inside the loading door or on the back panel.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Here is a link that you may use to view the parts list diagram and for parts purchases; Sears Parts Direct .

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

Hi Patti, Thank you for getting back to me with the model number. From your description, most likely your dishwasher has defaulted to demo mode. This could occur at any time during the life of the dishwasher. The computer can randomly skip into this mode if the door is kept open for a prolonged period of time or after any power interruption. To exit the demo mode, first press the Cancel/Drain button, then press the Quick Rinse button and allow cycle to run to completion. This will remove the Sales Demo mode from the memory in the control. Press the desired cycle, options and start button to restart the dishwasher. I hope this is helpful. Check the things I have covered here, and if I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post. Landell

Looks like it could be something else. The Cancel/Drain cycle runs and then when I push the Quick Rinse button it lights up (18 min) and then turns off within a minute. Nothing starts...

Patti, You most likely have an issue with the console or keypad. I recommend trying the diagnostic cycle (see image below). Please perform the diagnostic tests detailed here and report back with your findings. Landell

That may have done the trick. It's currently running after I ran the cycle. After it runs, that's it?

Q:

How do I fix my Kenmore dishwasher model 665.17839792 when the motor will not reverse to drain the unit?

A:

The drain circuit is shown in the image below. If the motor is not running at all in the drain mode, you could have a wiring failure in this circuit or you could have a failed drain motor. I assume that the control board is okay since it was just replaced. If you shut off the breaker to the dishwasher and access the control board, you can check the resistance through the circuits shown below to check the pump and the wiring with a volt/ohm meter. If the pump is bad, I recommend replacing the whole pump and motor assembly (part 675800A). You can order this part from the Sears PartsDirect website. If you find a wiring problem, you may be able to repair the wiring.

If the pump is running but the water is spraying normally and you are certain that the pump is running in the wash direction, then I recommend that you conduct the same resistance checks as mentioned above (with power still disconnected to the dishwasher). A control board problem would cause the pump to run in the wrong direction in the drain mode if the wiring is good and the drain circuit is okay.

If the pump is running but the water is recirculating in the dishwasher and not draining, you could have a clog or restriction in the check valve (Key 15) in the parts image below. Replacing this part or removing a restriction in it may fix your drain problem.

If you need more help, resubmit your question with additional details.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Q:

How complicated is changing the latch on a Kenmore dishwasher model 665.17839792?

A:

This dispenser assembly will test your do-it-yourself skills. The image below gives the instructions for access the dispenser in the inner door.

You can read the instructions and decide if you'd be comfortable and confident in replacing the dispenser latch.

If you take it step by step and get a good look at what you take apart, a digital camera is good for this, then you should be able to repair this problem.

If any additional questions come up then submit another question with additional details for further assistance.
