Thank you for contacting ManageMyLife.com regarding your Kenmore ultra wash dishwasher. I know it can be frustrating when the unit stops mid cycle due to a power outage. I'm happy to help you today.

Unfortunately, there is no diagnostic test for a mechanical timer dishwasher. From the description you give, the problem will be with the door switches or timer. This model dishwasher has no thermal fuse. So if it stopped mid cycle, either the door switch failed or the timer failed.

To diagnose which part has failed will require access and familiarity with a volt/ohm meter. I'd start by checking for continuity across both door switches when the door is closed. This is an older dishwasher and it might be worth a try to replace the door switch kit part number 4318273 ($45.53) but, you might consider replacement with a new dishwasher instead of replacing the timer, part number 8535369 ($129.88). The image below will show you how to disassemble the door to access the components. Parts can be purchased from Sears PartsDirect.

If the timer is the issue, it might be more cost efficient to replace the dishwasher as new similar models start at approximately $250. I provided a direct link to the models that Sears.com has to offer.

If you do not feel comfortable repair this issue yourself, an appointment can be scheduled at the following link: Sears Home Services.

I really hope this information helps you today. Thank you for using ManageMyLife.com.

This is the original question, along w/ model number. I cannot tell where the leak is coming from because I cannot get the panel off just below the door. Do I have to take the door off to get to the screws for the panel? Model: 665.17791790. I have been looking at the manual pages covering the door, but cannot get anything from them.

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

There are a total of four (4) screws to remove in order to take the lower access panel off. You will need to remove two screws at the top of the panel and two screws on face of the panel. I added the general procedure in the image below.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

Thanks for the response. I knew there were two sets of screws that had to be removed to take off the two panels to expose the pump, etc. The problem I was having is that there is virtually no clearance between the upper panel and the door in which to insert a tool. Since the bolts have phillips heads I will try to find a phillips screwdriver slender enough to fit between the door and the panel.

The image below will show how to get into the pump assembly to clean the filters.

The motor should be running. It runs one direction to wash and another direction to drain.

The drain hose can be disconnected from under the sink and lowered over a small shallow pan. Gravity should allow the water to drain. If it doesn't drain then there may be an obstruction in the pump assembly.

I hope this information is helpful to you but submit a reply with any additional details for further assistance.
