Question and Answers

Q:

Water Not All Draining 66517761891 Kenmore Portable dishwasher

A:

Thank you for being Sears’ valued member and for contacting SearsPartsDirect.com with your question about your Kenmore portable dishwasher model 66517761891. I am so sorry it doesn’t drain completely. I will be happy to help you with this.

There are several issues that can cause a dishwasher drain problem. I will be happy to outline them for you. Safety Warning: Be sure to disconnect the power supply to the dishwasher before being your maintenance and repairs to prevent the risk of electrical shock injury.

Because this is a portable dishwasher, I recommend you start by making sure the dishwasher is as close to the sink as possible. The pump will be less effective the further it has to move the water.  Next clean the interior of the dishwasher in accordance with the owner’s manual. I have included the link below for you to view the manual in case you don’t have a copy.

Owner’s Manual for Kenmore Portable Dishwasher 66517761891

Look for debris inside the bottom of the tub that can be blocking the drain. Inspect the check valve. It needs to open to remove the water. If it isn’t working properly, replace it. Remove any mineral build up in the tub. I recommend you use the procedures under “Storing your dishwasher” to access the drain hose and pump. Make sure there is no blockage in the hose and also check for anything stuck in the pump. If there is no blockage, then the pump may be failing and may need to be replaced. Also check the motor. If it isn’t working or turning freely it may need to be replaced.

If you are not comfortable performing these checks yourself, you can set up service at www.SearsHomeServices.com or by calling 1-800-469-4663. I hope this answers your question. Thank you for choosing Sears, we appreciate your business.

Thank you for your question. It is not pleasant trying to deal with large leaks.  Due to the amount of water, this does sound like the pump or drain hose where it connects to the pump. If the water is coming from the door area, this may be due to wave action pushing water up against the door.  That is often due to the way the dishwasher is loaded. I would remove the bottom panel first, start the dishwasher and observe to see if you can see where the water is coming from.  Keep hands out of the dishwasher while it is plugged in.  Also check the inlet hoses and inlet valve. If you find the leak, then, unplug the dishwasher before attempting any service or repairs. Running the dishwasher empty will also allow you to eliminate wave action as a cause. Also open the door to see how the spray arms are working and to check water level after it has filled.  It should be just under the heating element. The cabinet image below will help access the hoses and pump area. Replacement parts can be ordered at Sears Parts Direct . To determine the age of a product you need to have the serial number. I have checked and it looks like this model was introduced in 1998. If you need the exact date, please use the table below after obtaining the model number.
