Question and Answers

Q:

I have a Kenmore Altra Portable Dishwasher and the spot rinse disjpenser leaked inside door.

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

The detergent dispenser assembly will most likely have to be replaced in order to resolve the issue. The small little valve stem that opens and closes is not likely seating properly and is allowing the rinse agent to dribble out the small opening.

So that’s what I can tell you at this point. I can give you more detailed help if you could provide me with the complete model number. The model numbers are typically located around the tub opening after opening the door. If you could supply me with that information I will be happy to assist you further if needed.

A:

Joseph: Great name Joseph and thanks for adding the model number. I see by the model number you have the older mechanical operated dispenser assembly. I added a couple of images below that should be helpful. Remove the outer door panel and inspect the metering chamber, diaphragm and the diaphragm at the top of the dispenser housing for leakage. Be very careful and note or take pictures of the linkage assembly before taking any parts off of the dispenser assembly if you plan on taking it apart.

Thanks for contacting ManageMyLife.com. I understand how frustrating it is having trouble with your dishwasher leaking water. We are here to help. Marc did provide you a good link on this problem. Something like this is usually caused by overfilling or a stalled out spray arm. If the unit does not drain out completely during the drain cycle, the next fill cycle will be overfilled. Check each spray arm for cracks, usually in the seam area. Be sure the upper rack spray arm aligns with the tower, when you push the rack back in position. The other possibility is poor recirculation through the pump/motor. This will require accessing the pump/motor assembly and checking for obstructions or impeller problems. The image below is the pump breakdown. Also, clean any soap scum build up on the door, preventing it from sealing properly. I hope this helps.
