Question and Answers

Q:

Why is my Kenmore dishwasher model number 665.17599200 making a loud noise during the sensing cycle?

A:

The noisy is likely coming from the wash motor, drain motor or water inlet valve. The wash motor is running during the sensing mode so I must assume the noise is most likely caused by some type of hard object stuck in the wash impeller area or chopper blade area. The soil sensor will not make any noises while the dishwasher is in the soil sensing mode during wash or rinse. Now, during the sensing mode if the soil sensor senses trips and closes, the control board will turn the drain pump on to purge dirty water and then cause the water inlet valve to energize and add fresh and clean water. You could be hearing the drain pump, wash pump or the water inlet valve making noise.

I recommend removing the lower access panel and listen carefully to verify what component is making the noise before tearing into the pump assembly.
