Question and Answers

Q:

My Sears Kenmore dishwasher won't change cycles.

A:

Hello, Dishwasher are very handy appliances. If you don't have a manual handy you can go to the top of the page here on ManageMyLife and enter your model number there you can trouble shoot. If that doesn't help you can also visit the SearsHomeServices website and use the service scheduler and a tech would be out to assist with any problem that you have with your dishwasher, I have provided the link below. I hope this helps!

A:

It's not abnormal for the wash cycle to extend its wash time if the water is having to be heated up because it's not hot enough. The heater inside the tub must be working in order to raise the water temperature to approximately 140 degrees before the control will allow the wash cycle to advance on.

So what if the temperature is hot enough? Why would it not change cycles? I am pretty sure mine is plenty hot.

Q:

Why won't my Kenmore dishwasher model 6651741590 completely dry the dishes?

A:

Although I am not certain that this console is correct, I provided an image of the control panel for the closest model that I have to yours in the illustration below. This may help you determine the function for the buttons on your control panel.

Here are some tips that should help you with your drying problem in the dishwasher:

  • Check your water temperature. Water temperature will affect the drying process. Run the hot sink tap for 1 minute and then fill a glass with water. Measure the temperature of the water in the glass with an accurate thermometer. You should measure near 120 degrees. If not, then I recommend adjusting your water heater. Preheat the water before hooking up the dishwasher coupler.
  • Make sure that the rinse aid dispenser is full. Using rinse aid will help create a sheening process that will allow the dishes to dry more efficiently.
  • Plastics will not normally dry in the dishwasher. They do not retain the heat needed to promote the drying process.
  • Try to make sure that the heated dry setting is on. Check to see if the heating element is working. Do not directly touch the heating element. You should be able to tell if it is heating without actually touching it.
  • Make sure that you are using the proper amount of fresh powdered detergent.
  • A low water fill level can affect the drying process. Try manually filling the dishwasher tub with more hot water during the final rinse to see if the drying process improves.
These tips should help you resolve a drying problem in the dishwasher. If you need more help, resubmit your question with additional details.
