Troubleshooting

Question and Answers

Q:

Why is my Kenmore model 665.17054402 dishwasher not cleaning the dishes?

A:

Poor cleaning can be a difficult problem to pin down because there are several things that work together to get the dishes clean.

In your description you said the water pressure is low and a simple way to check this is to place a cup into each corner of the racks. You can run a rinse only cycle and after a few minutes you can stop/pause the dishwasher and open the door and check the water level in each cup. There should be approximately the same level in each cup.

Also while the door is open you can check the water level in the tub. It should be within a 1/4 inch of the element. Also check for suds in the water. If you see suds in the rinse only cycle then poor cleaning can be caused by excessive soap in the water. With the lower water levels in the newer dishwasher it is easy to use to much soap and that can lead to poor cleaning and poor water circulation.

The filters can be clogged with debris and the image below contains the procedure for accessing the pump from inside the tub. If you’re comfortable and confident in your do-it-yourself abilities then you can get into the pump and check for obstructions to the wash impeller. The sump has a check valve flapper, see the image below, that may be allowing soapy water and food back into the dishwasher.

The dishwasher must also heat the water to clean well. At the end of the wash cycle when you open the door the dishes should be almost too hot to pick up. If the dishes are cold then it's possible the heater in not working and if the water is not heated then the dishwasher will not clean well.

I hope this information helps to resolve your problem. If you have any additional questions then submit another question with any additional details for further assistance with this problem.
