Question and Answers

Q:

Dishwasher Won't Start 66517052402 Kenmore Elite Dishwasher

Q:

Kenmore elite 665.17052402 will not get warm

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

The control is programmed to stop the current cycle and not allow any further cycles if it suspects a faulty heater (no temperature increase detected in heated intervals). The control will blink the Clean LED 7 times in repetitive fashion and disables the Start/Resume key until cleared.

According to the technical data sheet, to start the diagnostic test that will normally clear the flashing "Clean" light, press Heated Dry - Normal - Heated Dry -  Normal in less than 6 seconds and then let the dishwasher run for at least 5 minutes. Then press the Cancel/Drain button and then let the dishwasher time out. This procedure should be started while the dishwasher is in standby. The dishwasher should now operate normally again unless it does not detect a temperature rise during the water heat cycles.

If you the heating element could be faulty, or it could have a faulty control board or the high limit thermostat could be open breaking the circuit to the heating element. The heating element and the high limit can be disconnected and tested with an Ohm meter. The heating element should measure 10-30 Ohms of resistance and the high limit should measure infinity/closed.

NOTE: Disconnect the dishwasher from the power source before servicing.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services.

Thanks, Marc. I have pulled the power plug and waited 15 seconds to restart with a clean start cycle. Did not work. I have also tried to look for clogged pipes or drains, etc. found nothing. I have also let the hot water run in the sink for a while to make sure hot water would go into the washer .. still no help. By the way, is there any low temperature water over-ride on this machine ? What might be the factory setting temperature ? I even tried to manually spin the sprayers just to confirm they are not stuck .. I have also slammed the door shut and press the start .. would not work.. But all this time, the smart wash, Pots Pans, Normal wash lights would work individually OK .. Just would not start .. Frustrating ..

I know that it can be very difficult to have issues with your dishwasher. The problem that you are having however can be caused by several different issues. These include:

  • Loose connections in the controls or keypad
  • Door switch failure
  • Blown TCO attached to the control
  • Multiple open or shorted circuits
  • Faulty Control

The first image below will provide the troubleshooting for these items. I have also include a wiring diagram in case you need. If you do not feel comfortable doing this, I would suggest you schedule a technician to diagnose and repair the dishwasher. If you would like to schedule just click on this link: Sears Home Services . If you need further assistance, please reply to this thread. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

Thanks, AnneJ. These documents are very helpful .. I am actually an electrical engineer, even though for the past 30 years I had a power transmission and distribution equipment sales job. I still need to read and understand relay ladder diagrams.. Just one additional assistance --- I assume that the electrical circuit boards are located within the front panel and the only access is to remove the stainless steel panel from the rear by the many tork screws ? Thanks again ..
