Question and Answers

Q:

Dishwasher won't fill. Model 665.17054200

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

The model number you provided is not a valid model number. I will assume your model number is 665.17052400 and I will base my answer using this model.

First, I assume the hot water supply was not shut off to the dishwasher under the sink.

If the dishwasher is not filling with any water and it's getting the proper water pressure and volume, it could have a faulty water inlet valve, faulty float switch, faulty electronic control board or it could just have something lying under the float dome preventing the float switch from closing. Open the door and locate the float at the bottom right corner. Lift the float up an inch and check to make sure nothing is lying under the float preventing it from traveling down in order to close the float switch located under the tub. If you listen carefully, you should hear a faint click of the float switch opening and closing as you lift and lower the float. If you hear the faint click, the float switch is likely okay.

If it does not fill after confirming the float dome will rise and fall and nothing is stuck under the float, the next step is to check to see if the water inlet valve is getting 120 volts when the dishwasher calls for water. You can also disconnect the wire connections from the water inlet valve and measure the Ohm resistance of the water valve solenoid with an Ohm meter. The Ohm resistance of the water inlet valve should be 890-1090 Ohms of resistance.

To access the water inlet valve, you will need to remove the access panel located below the door. NOTE: I do not recommend making any voltage measurements unless you have experience and feel safe and confident in doing so, otherwise I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your dishwasher.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

Q:

Kenmore Elite Dishwasher: only TurboZone, SaniRinse and Delay buttons work. Can't evoke Diagnostics Cycle.

A:

From the description you give I suspect you have a stuck or shorted keypad.  One thing you might try is to access the control board and remove the ribbon connector to the console. Once removed you can try to put it back and see if a better connection helps to solve the problem. The image below may help you do this. Remember to turn the power to the dishwasher off first. The console is color specific and can be obtained from the following site: Sears PartsDirect . I hope this helps. You can reply with any additional details for further assistance.

Thanks for reply! Yes, you 100% right about the problem. I'm industrial electrician and have some experience in troubleshooting. So I pinpointed the exact problem: sometimes when I cycle power my NORMAL WASH light starts blinking fast - meaning it's shorted. I did one more test: disconnected front panel and carefully shorted appropriate pins for SMART WASH cycle and then START. And bingo! washer sharted! (I found 14 pins connector diagram in of the answers). So it is key pad. But it's weired. I tested each button on the connector - there are no shorts. I even peeled cover and cut the plastic over that button - everything looks great and no moisture. I noticed that buttons are connected through diods and I suspect that short is somewhere there. And the end I decided to scrap my dishwasher - there is no point to spend $160 on new keypad... Thanks for the help!!!

I read that link. The back part that the spinner plugs into looks to have some sort of cover that is pushed in with the spinner attaches to the back part that supplies water to the spinner..is that correct? Should both holes have a cover that is activated when the spinner is not attached?

I posted a photograph of that feed tube on the back wall of the tub in the image below. If one of the holes is open, then that feed tube (part 8559849) will need to be replaced. You can order that part from this page: Feed Tube for Kenmore Dishwasher Model 665.17052400

If you need more help, reply with additional details and we will assist you further.

Yes one of the plug holes is open. Is there a way to test the top spinner to ensure I do not need any other parts? Should I also replace the part on the top spinner that plugs into that back water feeder part?

A:

If you can position that top spray arm into the hole that is open, you can check to see if it sprays and rotates. You can test the amount of spray reaching the top rack by placing some sturdy coffee cups in some various locations in that upper rack with the opening of the cups facing up. Start the dishwasher and see if the cups will fill up with water after the dishwasher runs for a couple of minutes. If the upper spray arm seems to be working properly, then replacing that feed tube should fix your problem.

I raised the top rack to the top position so the top spinner can plug into the top hole on the back part. I assume this corrected the issue although dishes on the top rack are still not fully cleaned after a full cycle. They were clean in the past prior to this issue. Any ideas? thanks

There are 2 issues that could prevent the top spray arm from getting proper water flow and water pressure. You could have a clog or component problem in the chopper blade area of the sump. The image below shows a basic procedure for accessing that area in the dishwasher (your dishwasher may be slightly different but the basic procedure is the same). I recommend that you check that issue. I posted a link for a previous answer that discusses a possible problem with the Turbo Zone wash system on the dishwasher. A problem with that system could prevent the upper spray arm from getting water. You can check system if necessary. If you need more help, let us know.
