Hi Brian,

Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life.

From your description this is most likely caused by a bad thermal fuse. Here is a video that demonstrates gaining access to the thermal fuse; Video . Always unplug or de-energize electrical equipment before removing covers or attempting service. Be careful and wear appropriate hand protection when working around sharp metal parts. The dishwasher in this video may not look exactly like yours but the procedure is basically the same.

Here is a video that will show you how to test the thermal fuse; Video . The video shows testing on a dryer thermal fuse, but the testing method is the same for your dishwasher fuse.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website; Sears Home Services .

Here is a link that you may use to purchase the thermal fuse for your Kenmore model number 665.17014402 dishwasher .

I hope this is helpful. Check the things I have covered here and if I may be of further assistance please reply to this post.

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

If you can confirm the voltage supply at the dishwasher electrical junction box then it could have a faulty thermal fuse. The thermal fuse is located up inside the console housing. The thermal fuse is connected in a series circuit between the power supply and the door switch. The door switch will have a solid Black wire and Black wire with a White stripe. Follow the Black wire with the White strip and it will lead you to the thermal fuse. I added an image below of the power circuit. I added a YouTube video showing how to test the thermal fuse and one on how to replace the thermal fuse.

NOTE: I do not recommend checking voltages unless you have experience and feel safe and confident in doing so, otherwise I recommend calling and setting up a service appointment to have your dishwasher repaired.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Hi Keith

Most likely the one or both of the door switches is no longer making contact. You can test the switches to see if they are functional. Here is a video that shows this procedure Video . To gain access to the door switches you will need to remove the console of the dishwasher. In the image below there is a description of what to check for the symptoms you gave and a wiring diagram. The diagram details the wire colors on both of the door switches. Always unplug or de-energize electrical equipment before removing covers or attempting service. Be careful and wear appropriate hand protection when working around sharp metal parts.

Here is a video that demonstrates the general procedure for gaining access to the door latch assembly Disassembly . Note: This should be similar to your dishwasher, this video is a rough guide only.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Here is a link that you may use to purchase the Door Switches .
