Q:

Cleaning the drain trap 66516962990 Kenmore Dishwasher

A:

Thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect.com. I will be more than happy to assist you. I can understand any frustration you may have experienced with regards to your unit. Let’s see what we can do for you.

That screw shouldn’t have fallen all the way down into the sump, but it is possible that it fell thru. I would recommend remove that cover into the sump to clean everything out and recover that screw.

Hope this information has helped you. If you are not comfortable doing this repair you can click here to schedule a technician or call toll free 1-800-469-4663. Again, thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect.com.

Q:

Why won't my Kenmore dishwasher model 665.16962990 run a complete cycle?

A:

The problem won't be the thermal fuse. If the thermal fuse was open the dishwasher wouldn't run at all.

From the description you give it is likely the control board is the problem. The times might drop and everything would be okay since the dishwasher control senses water temperature and adjusts the cycle time accordingly but the dishwasher should finish the cycle.

If the heater is not working the dishwasher may stall at a water heat portion of the cycle and stay there for 30 minutes for it should eventually advance out of water heat and finish the cycle.

Before taking anything apart I suggest you enter and run a diagnostic cycle. The image below contains the instructions for entering and running the test. If the dishwasher fails to run the test then most likely the control board is bad.

The 8530929 control is approximately $115 dollars and can be changed as a do-it-yourself project if you're comfortable with such things.

The 2nd image shows how to access the console if needed. Remember to turn the power to the dishwasher off first.

I hope this information is helpful to you but submit another question with any additional detail for further assistance.

A:

Hi, I just replaced the 2nd/duplicate part #8530929 in the above mentioned Kenmore Elite dishwasher. I still have a shut-off power problem. The circuit breaker has to be re-set as many as 8-9 times in order to resume washing to finish, when the 'green' clean light goes on. The dishwasher is on a dedicated line. Your assistance is appreciated. Thanks, miltdanko@yahoo.com

This can be a difficult problem to pin down but there is a dishwasher cleaner called "Dishwasher Magic" that can be used to clean out the dishwasher and help with this problem.

Dishwasher Magic WX10X10200 can be obtained from the local grocery store or it can be ordered from the following link: Sears PartsDirect .

Another way to deal with this problem is to be certain the problem is a soap film and not a hard water film.

Look at the heating element and see if it is covered with white film. If it is then most likely the film you're dealing with is hard water film.

The image below will show you how to take apart the sump to check the screens and wash and drain impeller.

Check the sump and try the Dishwasher Magic and see if there is any improvement.

If there are any additional details I may be able to assist you further.
