Q:

Why is my digital display on Sears Kenmore Elite Dishwasher not working properly?

A:

Thank you for your question. Congratulations on the successful repairs. The delay in showing the time remaining on the cycle sounds like a normal part of the water heating cycle. The time display does not include the time spent heating the water to the required temperature.  The time to heat the water will depend on the temperature of the water entering the dishwasher. You might try running the water at the sink before starting the dishwasher to see if this decreases the thermal hold time. If further help is needed, please reply.  Thank you for using Manage My Life.

I have owned the dishwasher for 12 years. The display always showed the time remaining as soon as it started a cycle. The cycle time counted down more slowly if the water was cold but it always had a number on it. Now the number doesn't appear for about 5 minutes. Instead a cursor or dash moves around the display in a clock-wise rotation. Then after about 5 minutes it stops and a count-down number appears. This did not start happening until the other problems started that were corrected by replacing the parts. Is there a way to check the digital display using an ohm meter (or volt meter)?

Thank you for the reply. I have e-mailed the wiring circuits, electrical schematics and the user interface switch matirx. If you feel comfortable making these checks, they will help. The wiring may be slightly different depending on the serial number of your dishwasher. I highly recommend having a technician make these checks.

I have a kenmore elite dishwasher model 66516574201 and have to replace the element too. I also received the circuit board along with the different shaped element. They came with no instructions. I was looking for instructions to do this and what you have here is exactly what i need. I will attempt the repair and post the results.

Thanks for the instructions. I had figured out how to replace the board using some knives on the tabs. But there is a missing part on the board that Sears sent to me to replace the old board. On the new boards, is it necessary to have the white capacitator with the two male tabs for the two wires that plugged into the white capacitator on the old board?
