This is a problem I can help you with but I will need a model number to give you specific advice.

From the description you give I suspect the main motor is the problem but it might just be jammed.

With a model number I can provide you with pictures and step by step instructions.

Please reply with a model number for further assistance with this problem.

Your model has one motor that runs one direction to wash and one direction to drain. From the description you give the motor is not running at all. Do you hear a hum or notice a vibration? My first suggestion is to access the wash impeller and see if it will turn. you can reply with any additional details for further assistance.

Oops. full model number is 665.1675591. When the motor is supposed to engage (after the tub fills), there is a "clatter" not a hum. I don't have the skills to access the impeller, but would like to know if the motor may have failed -- in which case it would be time to replace the motor assembly or purchase a new dishwasher if the costs are fairly close to one another.

The motor would cost approximately $150 dollars and replacing the dishwasher might be a better idea. If you can't access the impeller then try to remove the lower kick plate. With the kick plate removed you may be able to visually check if the motor is running. The clatter may be a broken plastic slinger. The slinger is a round plastic piece that sits just above the motor and if there is a leak the water hits the slinger and is slung off protecting the motor. If the motor seems to run then I suspect the impeller is broken.

From the description you give my first suspect is that either the pump outlet cover screws are loose or the pump cover gasket is not sealing properly.

Try tightening the screws first and see if that helps. These are part keyed 13, 14 and 3, in the image below.

Another possibility is the Wash impeller, part key 11 in the image below, is worn out and not delivering the proper pressure to circulate the water.

I hope this helps. You can reply with any additional details or questions for further assistance.
