Question and Answers

Q:

Kenmore Dishwasher Clean Light flashing 7 times after replacing circuit board and heater element.

A:

Thank you for your question regarding the lights flashing on your Kenmore dishwasher control panel. I know it can be frustrating when the unit does not operate properly. Please remember each time you push a button, you are sending a message to the command center. So, if you push a button and keep pushing and pushing buttons, you are now sending command on top of a command and could create a issue with the control board. The lock light indicates it is on. Hold the air dry button until the light turns off. Now open and close the door to make the dishwasher think it was loaded and ready to begin.

The keypad sequence to do this is HIGH TEMP SCRUB, AIR DRY, HIGH TEMP SCRUB, AIR DRY. Now wait and give it time to understand the command. The dishwasher should run through a test and it could last 15 minutes or less and the dishwasher will clear the error enabling you to run the dishwasher again. Select a cycle with a high heat, such as Pots and Pans or Sanitize to engage the heating element in the process. When the dishwasher completes the cycle, everything should be reset and ready to go.

If you do not feel comfortable repairing this issue yourself, service can be scheduled at Sears Home Services.

Q:

Why is the clean light flashing on my dishwasher?

A:

The blinking clean light on this model indicates a heater circuit failure. The electronic control board did not detect the expected rise in water temperature during the water heating portion of the wash cycle. This can be caused by a failed heating element or a number of other component problems. I recommend carefully checking the heating element for any visible signs of damage or failure. If you do not see any apparent problem, you can reset this fault code by pressing the following buttons in this order (this key dance should be completed within about 5 seconds): HEATED DRY - NORMAL WASH - HEATED DRY - NORMAL WASH.

If this key dance is completed properly, all of the console lights will turn on for a few seconds and then shut off. The dishwasher will then begin a short diagnostic cycle. You can cancel this cycle with the CANCEL button. Try a test cycle and see if the heating element is working properly. If the heating element works properly and the blinking clean light does not return, you should be able to continue safely using the dishwasher. You may have received the code due to a low water level fill. Monitor the performance of the dishwasher. If the flashing clean light returns or you suspect any other problems, I recommend calling a service technician to examine the dishwasher.

When I try the sequence, I press heated dry and the light doesn'y come on, then I press normal whas, the light comes on, then I press heated dry and that light comes on and then normal wash and just those 2 lights stay on for a few seconds and then everything turns off except for the clean light flashing. The element looks good, but would this mean the element is out. Thanks for any help. Steve

Q:

Why won't my Kenmore dishwasher model 665.16609300 drain the water or clean the dishes on the top rack?

A:

The problem with water pressure to the top rack spray arm and the drain problem could be caused by a clog or restriction in the sump area. The image below shows a procedure for accessing the chopper blade area in the sump. I recommend accessing this area to check for a problem. Your dishwasher may have clips that secure the inner feed tube to the tub rather than screws as shown in the image below. The rest of the procedure should be the same for your model. If you are able to find and clear a clog or restriction in this area, you may be able to resolve both the drain problem and the upper spray arm water pressure issue. If not, then you could have separate failures. The drain problem could be caused by a clogged drain hose or a failed drain pump. The upper spray arm water pressure problem could be caused by a clog in the inner feed tube or a pump/motor issue.
