A:

The newer dishwashers do run twice as long as the older ones but they still use less water and energy.

Two to three hour cycles are possible even if everything is working okay.

From the description and complaint I would check the amount of water in the dishwasher and make sure it doesn't siphon out during the cycle.

There are a few more details that would help diagnose the problem. If this is a dishwasher that has been installed and working for a year then it is likely something has broken to cause the problem.

How long are you waiting to stop the cycle? The water level should be just below the element. If the unit has been stuck in water heat for an hour then the water should be very hot.

To me the problem seems to be the dishwasher is losing water during the cycle. If there is no water then there can be no water heat and no rinsing the soap off the dishes.

I believe I can help you with this problem but it may take an exchange of information to diagnose what is happening.

You can reply with a few more details for further assistance.

Q:

Can a Kenmore dishwasher run without the holder feed tube?

A:

The feed tube holder #7 is what keeps the manifold #6 in position to guide the manifold nozzle #9 in alignment when you push in the upper rack. If the manifold does not line up with the nozzle the upper rack will not clean properly & the unit may leak water. You can run the unit, but you will have poor washing results.
