Reinstalling the timer on a Kenmore dishwasher should not be that difficult when you have a diagram to follow. I am providing a link below that may help you while waiting for an expert answer.

The part number 3378124 part key 6 is a cam that slides over the timer shaft. The 3369529 part key 4 is called a cam follower. The cam slides over the timer shaft and the cam follower fits on the can. As the timer turns the cam should cause the cam follower to rise and lower which will activate the dispenser mechanism. I hope this helps. You can reply with any additional details or questions for further assistance.

However, I can't get the next black disk off; it doesn't hold still while I try to unscrew the nut holding it down. Complicating everything is the fact that there's still water in the bottom of the dishwasher, even after trying to scoop it out. I really don't want to get water in the engine. Any other sets of instructions that

Thanks for your reply. The problem is we can't get the wash impeller off. Even after using a wrench to hold the impeller still, getting all the water out of the dishwasher so it was dry, and using a little WD-40 to try and lubricate the screw, the impeller turns with the screw.
