Troubleshooting

Question and Answers

Q:

I have a Kenmore Elite dishwasher Model # 66516273400. It won't turn on. Start button not working. 66516273400 Kenmore Elite Dishwasher

A:

I recommend that you unplug the dishwasher or shut off the house circuit breaker for 5 minutes. This will reset the electronic control board. Restore power and see if the dishwasher works.

Since the dishwasher worked in the diagnostic test mode, it should not have any major component failures. You may have an intermittent stuck key on the control panel that is preventing it from starting. A failed door switch would prevent it from starting a cycle but that failure would also keep it from starting the diagnostic test cycle that you described in your details.

If resetting the control board does not help, reply with additional details and we will assist you further.

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with your dishwasher. If the normal light is flashing fast, the problem is most likely a shorted touch pad. When the button is shorted the control does not see any other button being pushed and will not respond. If you have an ohmmeter, you can use it to check the continuity of the normal button. I have provided you with the tech sheet below. Start by turning the power off to the dishwasher and remove the console. To remove the console remove the screws in the inter door panel. Once the console is removed, locate and remove the P1 connector from the main control. Then turn the meter to check ohms and place you leads on the connectors of the ribbon cable. Make sure to use the chart in the image below. When the button is pushed, you should get a response. If you have, a reading before pushing the button the console needs to be replaced. If all of the buttons test fine you will need to replace the main control.

I hope this is helpful.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Q:

Why did the water stop feeding into my Kenmore dishwasher?

A:

Here are some troubleshooting tips that may help you resolve this fill problem in your dishwasher:

  • Check the mushroom float valve in the bottom of the dishwasher tub to make sure that it is not stuck in the "up" position.
  • Make sure that the water supply cut-off valve for the dishwasher if fully open.
  • Make sure that the dishwasher door is closing properly. A door switch problem could prevent the dishwasher from running.
  • If the fill valve buzzes but the dishwasher is not filling, you could have a water supply problem or a failed solenoid water fill valve. Shut off the water supply to the dishwasher and use the procedures in the installation guide to access and remove the water supply tube and check it for proper water flow and pressure. If you do not have the installation guide, here is a link for that manual: Installation Guide . If the water supply is inadequate, you will need to resolve this issue for the dishwasher to fill properly. If the water supply is okay, then you likely have a failed water inlet fill valve.
These tips may help you resolve your fill problem.
