It can be very frustrating when your dishwasher will not properly clean the upper rack. I did some research and provided a link to a similar question and answer on our site. I hope this will shed a little more light on the issue until the Expert responds to your question in more detail within 24 to 48 hours.

My first suspicion based upon the information you provide is that the Turbozone feature is at fault. This unit has a Turbozone feature that redirects the water from the upper spray arm to the Turbozone manifold in the back of the tub. A simple test is to place 4 similar cups into each corner of the unper rack and see how much water they get. The Tubozone feature is controlled by a wax motor which gets power from the control. Let me know if you're getting any water to the upper rack and if you would like to fix this problem as a do-it-yourself project. The wax motor can be checked with a meter if one is available.

I could try the cups test but how difficult is it to replace this wax motor if it is the culprit? Called Sear Service and they say it could be the water pump - a $230 package to fix problem (with year warranty included). Thoughts? Thanks for your input, Fred!

A:

If the problem is just with the upper rack then the water pump package is most likely not the problem. The wax motor can be a do-it-yourself project but you will need to pull the dishwasher out and lay it on it's back to access the wax motor. If the unit is stuck in the Turbzone feature then the wax motor is the most likely cause of the problem. The door could be opened to check this but you will get some water spray.

I know that it can be very frustrating to have issues with dishwasher. There are several components within the system that can cause this type of problem. These include the thermostat, the thermistor, the thermal fuse, or even the door switch. The images below will provide the diagnostics test for the unit and the wiring for the water heating. All of the testing information you need is on the wiring diagram. I hope this helps. If you need further assistance, please reply to this thread. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

AnneJ, Thank-you for your response. I had a diagnostic paper that explained the test intervals and what each light meant in the test sequence that the machine runs through. Using the information that you gave us, we were able to run the test sequence. But its still not clear how to interpret what the machine displays during each interval or what each interval is testing. After the machine completed the testing, no lights were flashing or remained on. I'm sorry, but I can't figure out how to interpret the test from the information you gave us. We know the thermal fuse is OK. The lights that are suppose to flash if its the thermistor didn't flash in interval 9, and nothing with the pressure switch. How do we test the thermostat and the door switch. My husband is an electrician and has meters and can test circuits. Please reply. Hope you had a blessed holiday.

A:

Did you try running a normal wash cycle after you ran the diagnostics. It is possible that the control board needed to be reset, which is what the diagnostics test would have done. Try your dishwasher, if it works, then it's fine. If not then, begin test the components in the sequence. If the door switch is working, you will give 120 VAC between the black and white wire and the tan wire. Please let me know if there is anything else you need. Thank you for using Manage My Life.
