Question and Answers

Q:

on dishwasher - press "Normal Wash" light flashes on & off but won't start 66516023403

A:

Thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect.com and being a valued member.  I can certainly understand how frustrating it can be when your dishwasher is not working properly.

Normal Wash light blinking indicates that you have a stuck key on the control. The control key panel will normally need to be replaced to repair this type of problem.

If you can not select the cycles and options then you most likely have a stuck keypad.

You can also visit searpartsdirect.com for parts, diagrams, and repair information.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Thank you for your question. Have a great day.

SAFETY NOTICE: Be sure to disconnect power to the appliance before performing any repairs. If you are not comfortable with doing any voltage checks that might be recommended, please contact your local service provider for repairs. Thanks for contacting ManageMyLife.com. I understand how frustrating it is having trouble with your dishwasher not draining. We are here to help. Based on the symptom, most likely the pump is clogged or a bad pump. Here is a link for a video that shows how to replace that drain pump. Just click here . Before you take apart the dishwasher, shut off the house circuit breaker for the dishwasher. Next, check the drain pump path from the bottom of the dishwasher using the information from the video. To access the sump from the top of the pump assembly, you can use the procedure shown in the image below. Your dishwasher will look different than the one shown below, but the basic procedure is the same. If you find no blockages and the drain pump runs, then you will probably need to replace that drain pump. I hope this helps.

To order parts, please visit SearsPartsDirect.com with the model number.

A:

Thank you. The drain is not the problem, but the flow of water into the dishwasher for the rinse cycle.

Paul, The dirty water from washing needs to drain. Next, the dishwasher has to fill with water so it can spray again to rinse the dishes. If the water will not enter the dishwasher, check for a stuck float. Just lift the float up and down, then try rinse again. If there is still no water, I suspect no voltage from the control board for the valve to open. That would indicate a bad control board which is the timer. The voltage to the valve can be verified with a multimeter.

Paul, The float is a little dome with a round top the is mounted inside the dishwasher on the left or right side. The image below shows the float, it is key number 13. It just move up and down. Sometimes it sticks and it will stop water from entering the dishwasher. To free it up move it up and down several times. If water still does not enter the dishwasher the float is not the problem. I suspect the valve to be good because, water enters the dishwasher in the beginning. Therefore the valve voltage test needs to be performed during the rinse cycle. It should be about 120 vac.

Hello, Sorry I did not give you all the info originally-I thought I was signing into a Chat and would have an interactive Q&A session. I have a Kenmore 665.16023403. It is 5.75 years old. Worked fine until about a year ago when the poor washing started. For the last 3-4 years I have had a water softener. As to your supplies suggestions: I use a rinse aid, I have tried the specialized product, like "Dishwasher Magic," have tried white vinegar soak, have tried varying the amount of detergent and which cup, tried varying the cycle. None of these things mattered. The water going into the unit is 120 degrees. When I hand wash the dishes are clean. It leaves both some food on the plates and silverware and a dull film. I took the top portion apart and inspected: grate screen clean, no large objects in the sump. One website suggested the water inlet valve and said to test with ohm meter. Mine reads infinity which the site says means the solenoid is OK. I have not pulled the valve to look for anything in it. The water goes in and comes out. I have had other models where a broken wine glass gets caught in the pump and usually the unit will not drain. This is not my problem. I have not pulled the whole thing out and dropped the motor pump assembly and that's probably a two hour job (I have replaced this several times on another model). One of your suggests seems to recommend this. So if there is possibly (given all the easy things I have tried that did not matter) a procedure in pulling the motor please provide instructions. But given that the unit is almost 6 years old I wonder if I should just replace. Suggestion? Thank you, Gary
